on sale in 1989 and was the largest redesign of the brand's
legendary model line up to that point. A new design was far more
aerodynamic than the outgoing "G-Body" cars, and an all new
3.6-liter air cooled flat-6 was developed with electronic fuel
injection and catalytic converters, allowing it to be sold in
markets around the world without modification. Although some
purists looked down on the 964 in light of its increased creature
comforts when new, it has become the must-have 911 in the current
day thanks to its exciting, dynamic driving experience, paired with
fantastic usability.This 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet is a
rarity, finished in Slate Gray from the factory and under the care
of just three owners from new. With some light modifications, this
car has been turned into a car that both looks and drives
spectacularly and with only 69,077 miles on the odometer, remains
in very good overall condition. This example sits on a set of
Speedline-style multi-piece wheels that are reminiscent of those
found on the 964 Carrera Cup and Turbo 3.6 which give it a
purposeful, racy appearance. This is paired with Bilstein coilovers
all around to give it the more aggressive ride height, while more
aerodynamic 993 side view mirrors update the look as well.Inside,
black leather wraps the seats and door cards, while the original
4-spoke steering wheel frames Porsche's famed 5-gauge instrument
cluster with a large central tachometer just in your sightline. The
rear seats in this 964 were deleted from the factory in favor of a
luggage shelf with locking cubbies beneath for storing things you
don't want people to see when the top is down. In the dashboard
sits a Porsche branded cassette stereo head unit which looks to be
original to the car.The M64 flat-6 that powers this 911 is a
3.6-liter air cooled unit that was rated from the factory at 247
horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. In this car, that number is
likely higher thanks to the addition of a Steve Wong performance
chip, and high flow catalytic converters with a partial muffler
delete. This both frees up power and gives the car a fantastic
sound which truly enhances top-down driving. In 2016, the engine in
this car was rebuilt with invoices totaling around $30,000 for the
work and only 3,000 miles have been put on the car since its
completion. Power is then sent through a 5-speed manual transaxle
with a factory-optioned limited slip differential to the rear
wheels. The 964 represents the ultimate in modern-classic sports
cars, offering plenty of power and driving enjoyment, while also
being reliable and comfortable enough to use every day. This 964
Carrera 2 has been nicely modified to further enhance the driving
pleasure, without sacrificing any of the usability that Porsche
worked so hard to develop in period. Offered in a great color
combination and a low-mile engine rebuild, this will be an
enjoyable car to own for years to come. For more information on this
