For the serious vintage racer or collector, opportunities to
acquire an authentic and continuously documented historic race car
like this rarely come to market. Known throughout vintage racing
circles as "Big Orange," this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro represents more
than just a beautifully prepared Trans Am-era machine. It
represents over five decades of American road racing history,
development, competition, and success.
Beginning its competition life in the early 1970s, this Camaro was
actively campaigned in SCCA A-Sedan and later GT-1 competition at
legendary circuits including Watkins Glen International, Lime Rock
Park, Sebring International Raceway, and Road America, located just
miles from our showroom. Accompanied by eight log books documenting
its history from 1972 through 2019, the car carries the kind of
provenance that simply cannot be recreated today.
Under longtime ownership, "Big Orange" became a dominant presence
in vintage competition, earning SVRA Group 6 Championships in 2009
and 2010 while also capturing victory in the 2005 HSR Four Hours of
Sebring Enduro. Along the way, the car gained national recognition
through features in Motor Trend, Vintage Motorsport, Grassroots
Motorsports, and Super Chevy, cementing its place as a respected
and well-known name within the vintage racing community.
Purpose-built and professionally developed throughout its life, the
Camaro is powered by a Wegner Automotive Research-built 302ci V8
producing a dyno-documented 609 horsepower, backed by a Jerico
dog-ring four-speed transmission, Peterson dry sump system, Penske
adjustable suspension, and a fully sorted vintage racing chassis
engineered for serious competition use.
Following retirement from active competition, the car underwent a
comprehensive 2026 recommissioning through Stewart Black
Performance, including a new fuel cell bladder, fresh fire system,
driveline servicing, hydraulic refresh, ignition servicing, and
fresh fluids throughout. With just 3.8 hours on the engine, this
Camaro stands ready for its next chapter on track.
This is not a replica, tribute, or recently assembled vintage
build. This is a genuine historic race car with decades of
documented competition history, championship pedigree, and proven
eligibility with premier organizations including Sportscar Vintage
Racing Association and Historic Sportscar Racing. For the
enthusiast seeking an opportunity to own and campaign a truly
recognized piece of vintage American road racing history, "Big
Orange" delivers an experience few race cars can match.
