"While the Wrangler has its roots in the Willys CJ, the Wrangler as
we know it started in 1987 when AMC decided the off roader needed
some on road creature comforts to boost sales. Back in 2007 Jeep
ruffled more feathers by stretching the Wrangler's wheelbase and
track several inches to improve road manners. Despite 25 years of
continual improvements to make the Wrangler more suited to the
commuter shopper, thankfully little has been done to alter the look
of the go anywhere brand." Thetruthaboutcars.com
For consignment, a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited sport 4x4 with a
title verified 41,284 actual miles. This "Oscar Mike/Freedom"
edition has been professionally lifted and comes to you with both
the Fuel wheels and five factory wheels with original tires.
Exterior
Oscar Mike is a military term, the NATO phonetic way of saying "on
the move" and that seems fully appropriate to the capable Jeep
which, of course, has its roots in World War II. In addition to the
Bright White Clearcoat coverage, you get a number of Oscar Mike
emblems and this rig is also embellished by the argent gray grille,
bull bar with rally lights, and steel bumpers. The aftermarket
wheels here are 17-inch Fuel Mavericks wrapped in LT275/70R17 tires
and includes a spare mounted out back. The black canvas top is in
nice shape and rear light guards add a little more black to the
package along with a fuel filler door. Imperfections include some
chips and minor cracking paint.
Interior
Door panels are composed of plastic, leather clad armrests, and
robust hardware with clean presentation of both. Inside, a military
star is embroidered on each leather seat upper with a tire tread
like pattern on the cloth inserts, Jeep embroidered on the headrest
and white stitching around. The rear seats retain the cloth pattern
and a high headrest and all four seats are in great condition. A
meaty steering wheel with thumb controls fronts a clean instrument
cluster beside the integrated AM/FM/CD radio, A/C panel, and
thickly framed vents. A grab handle is provided to the passenger
and cupholders are provided to both in the center console where the
shifter and range selector reside. Black carpet covers the floor
including that of the cargo area and the entire interior is clean
ready for the trail!
Drivetrain
The shrouded powerplant is a fuel injected 3.6 liter VVT V-6 with
285 horsepower and tied to a 6-speed NSG370 manual transmission
with routes power through 3.21 gears on front and rear axles.
Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust underneath on an otherwise clean underside
where we find the single exhaust running through original
equipment. Four wheel power disc brakes are onboard and suspension
is matched front and rear with 4 links and coil springs.
Drive-Ability
No surprises for this low mileage modern Jeep as it starts, runs,
tracks, and handles as expected, easily conquering our test loop
imperfections. The radio works, the A/C blows cold, and the
visibility provided by the tall sight lines is confidence inducing.
The hills of Morgantown are calling, but we'll need to stay
grounded for now! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
3,099 Freedom Editions were built in 2012 and the theme was carried
into future years. It's an appropriate blending of military
heritage, patriotic dedication, and the ideal ride for America's
250thanniversary. But overall, this is a clean and capable rig that
has all the bells and whistles you'll need for the trail, the
turnpike, and trips to Target.
