A true piece of traditional California custom-car history, this
stunning 1953 Mercury Monterey traces its roots back to 1963 when
it was originally built at the legendary shop of Frank DeRosa in
California. Decades later, the car was carefully refreshed in the
mid-2000s by Frank's son at Lucky 7 Hot Rods, preserving its iconic
custom styling while upgrading its performance, drivability, and
comfort for modern cruising.
Finished in elegant Straw Beige and highlighted by tasteful
hand-applied custom pinstriping, the Mercury embodies the classic
custom aesthetic that made these cars famous. The exterior is
complemented by a clean cream-colored interior that provides a
timeless, period-correct appearance while offering a comfortable
environment for long-distance cruising.
Power comes from a strong 383 Stroker V8 paired with a 700R4
automatic overdrive transmission, delivering impressive performance
and relaxed highway manners. Additional upgrades include power
steering, power front disc brakes, updated front and rear axle
assemblies, and an Air Ride Technologies air suspension system at
both ends, allowing the car to achieve the perfect stance while
maintaining excellent ride quality.
The Mercury rides on genuine wire wheels that perfectly complement
its custom appearance, while a modern custom stereo system with
Bluetooth connectivity provides contemporary convenience without
detracting from the car's vintage character.
Blending authentic California custom heritage with thoughtfully
integrated modern upgrades, this 1953 Mercury Monterey is far more
than a restored classic-it is a historically significant custom
that represents over six decades of craftsmanship, style, and
evolution. Whether displayed at shows or enjoyed on the open road,
it stands as an exceptional example of one of America's most iconic
custom-car platforms.
