INTRODUCTION: #s match motor and trans. Documented with 2 build
sheets, 1971 bill of sale, Galen Govier fender tag decode and a
hardcover restoration book. Sold new at Al Davenport Plymouth in
VA, then in 1971 it was traded back in. The 2nd owner kept it for
41 years. The 3rd owner had a 1.5 year restoration performed. An
added perk is the signed visor by the legend that made this car
historic- Richard Petty!
EXTERIOR: From the aerodynamic nose cone to the towering rear wing,
it remains one of the most iconic and recognizable muscle cars ever
built. What makes this one even more special is that it retains its
original body panels complete with their original body numbers,
along with its original nose cone and wing. The body was stripped
down, its laser beam straight, smooth down to the rockers, and the
panels fit beautifully throughout. It has been refinished in its
original Blue Fire Metallic. The metallic is laid out evenly, and
the clear coat has been polished to a smooth, glossy finish. The
bold Superbird graphics and blackout headlight doors have been
correctly reapplied, while the vinyl top has been replaced for a
fresh appearance. The windshield, trim, and weatherstripping are
all in excellent. Completing the authentic presentation is a set of
reproduction Polyglas tires mounted on the correct 14-inch Rally
wheels, giving the car the exact stance and appearance that it has
in 1970.
INTERIOR: This separates it from many other Superbirds! Not only
does it feature the highly desirable factory white interior, but
it's also a bucket seat car equipped with a factory console- a
combination that is both rare and valuable. The interior has been
restored to a high standard with firm seat cushions and fresh
upholstery. The door panels, armrests, carpeting, and headliner
have all been replaced, giving the cabin a fresh, crisp appearance
while maintaining its factory correct look. The dash is in
excellent condition and is equipped with a full set of Rally
gauges, a deluxe steering wheel and a rare factory AM/FM radio.
Down on the floor are embroidered mats, while the working interior
lights and complete set of factory seat belts further demonstrate
the completeness of the restoration.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Yes, this is a beautifully restored, factory
correct engine compartment that you may find in other Superbirds.
What truly separates this one from the crowd is what's sitting
between the fenders- its original VIN # matching 440-375hp Super
Commando engine! It remains dressed exactly as it should, featuring
the correct stock manifolds, valve covers, air cleaner assembly,
and factory components throughout. Everything has been restored to
a like new appearance. The engine bay is finished in the correct
gloss blue paint, matching the exterior of the car. It is equipped
with power steering and power brakes, making it both desirable and
enjoyable to drive. It even retains the famous "Beep Beep" Road
Runner horn, the windshield washer system is hooked up, the wiper
motor has been professionally restored, the battery is properly
secured, and the original fender tag remains attached in its proper
location. The cooling system features the correct Mopar radiator,
proper fan shroud, and reproduction clamps.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It is clean and complete. With a Superbird the
completeness factor is important. One detail many people don't
realize is that these cars were equipped with two different jacks-
a bumper jack for the rear and a scissors jack for the front.
Finding a Superbird with both of them still present is becoming
increasingly rare, but this one retains the complete setup. It also
includes a matching 14-inch Rally wheel fitted with a Goodyear
Polyglas tire for a spare, another detail collectors appreciate.
Under the deck lid and throughout the trunk compartment, everything
is finished in gloss blue paint to match the exterior. The metal is
clean and solid, and the compartment is properly detailed with
reproduction decals, a fresh weatherstrip, and the correct trunk
mat.
UNDERSIDE: The underside of this Superbird is rock solid and
beautifully restored. The steering and suspension systems have been
rebuilt and upgraded with gas shocks for improved ride quality. The
brake system has been completely redone and features front disc
brakes, a functional emergency brake, and stainless steel brake and
fuel lines. It is also equipped with a stainless steel fuel tank.
The exhaust system consists of polished stainless steel dual pipes
with a crossover and DynoMax mufflers, providing both durability
and a great sound. Looking up at the engine, everything is clean
and proper. The casting numbers and matching VIN stamp are clearly
visible on the side of the block, verifying the originality of the
powerplant. The 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission is also
VIN-matching to the car. Out back is the original 8-inch rear end
fitted with 3.23 Sure Grip gears. The floors, frame rails, and
structural components all appear to be rock-solid original metal.
Much of the factory undercoating remains intact and has been
lightly freshened for a clean, well-maintained appearance. Overall,
the underside is highly detailed, authentic, and exactly what you
hope to find beneath a genuine Superbird.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION: They couldn't give these cars away when they were new,
but today their outrageous styling makes them one of the most
sought after muscle cars ever built. This Superbird represents the
best of the breed, combining authenticity, desirable options,
extensive documentation, great colors, and a #s matching
drivetrain. If you're looking for a Superbird that checks all the
boxes, you'll be hard pressed to find a better example.
