INTRODUCTION: What makes this Z28 special is that it's a genuine
22,900 actual mile survivor! Finished in desirable black with gold
accents, it has the look that defined performance cars of the late
1970s. What really sets this one apart is how it was ordered: the
original owner clearly had muscle in mind, checking the boxes for a
4-speed, 3.73 posi and even deleting the radio altogether. Along
with the glovebox manuals it also has an appraisal from 1994
describing it as having only 15,371 original miles at the time.
EXTERIOR: This is one of the most attractive and sporty body styles
of its era, from every angle, the design works. The distinctive
rubber bumper front end is complemented by a lower front spoiler,
while the stinger style hood, fender air extractors, sport mirrors,
low roofline, and short rear deck all contribute to its aggressive,
performance oriented appearance. Out back, the three piece rear
spoiler and matching rubber rear bumper complete the look
perfectly. What makes this car especially appealing is its
originality. The body is all original metal- a true survivor with
no rust or accident damage. Finished in its factory black color, it
still retains a significant amount of its original paint that
presents nicely with a gloss finish but does have expected flaws.
It's accented by the gold striping that instantly brings to mind
the iconic Bandit Trans Am of the late 1970s. The trim, glass, and
weatherstripping have all been exceptionally well preserved,
reflecting the care this car has received over the years.
Completing the authentic appearance are the original 15-inch body
color wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich tires.
INTERIOR: Step inside and you'll feel like you've gone back in
time. This interior is a genuine time capsule, remarkably original
and preserved in excellent, unabused condition. From the carpet to
the headliner, it has been cared for exceptionally well. The seats
still have their firm factory cushions, and the original upholstery
presents beautifully. All of the factory seat belts remain in
place, while the carpet has been protected over the years by floor
mats. The entire dash area is clean and uncut, featuring the
factory instrumentation, including the tachometer. One particularly
unique feature is that this is a radio delete car. Unlike so many
cars of the era, no one cut holes for speakers, stereos, CBs over
the years! The dash remains untouched, preserving its original
appearance. Rising from the center console is the highly sought
after 4-speed shifter, adding to the car's performance oriented
character. Even the typical wear areas show minimal use, helping
support the originality and mileage of the car. The headliner is in
excellent condition as well.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: What makes this engine compartment special is
its originality. This is the original #s matching engine, and it
has never been removed from the car. As a result, it retains many
of the factory installed components that are often missing after
decades of ownership. The complete air cleaner assembly is still in
place, including the snorkel and heat riser tube. The overflow
bottle, fan shroud, and other factory components remain intact,
giving the engine bay an authentic appearance that's becoming
increasingly difficult to find. It is also equipped with power
steering and power brakes. This isn't a flashy engine compartment
filled with chrome and aftermarket parts. Instead, it offers
something many collectors value even more: honest originality.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It is original and complete, just the way
collectors like to find them. The metal is clean and solid,
retaining its factory finishes and honest appearance. A carpeted
trunk mat covers the floor, and beneath the matching tire cover is
the original collapsible spare, the original jack assembly remains
properly mounted beneath the rear package shelf.
UNDERSIDE: It shows as a remarkably well preserved, rust free
example that has been properly maintained throughout its life. The
floors are exceptionally smooth and clean, almost like a chalkboard
underneath, and retain a neat black finish. Being a Z28, it is
equipped with the factory sport suspension package, including front
and rear sway bars. The exhaust still retains it's catalytic
converter, while the mufflers have been replaced with Super Turbos
that exit through chrome splitter tips. The brake system consists
of factory front disc brakes and rear drums, and even the emergency
brake remains connected and functional. Looking up at the engine,
it has been freshened with paint, presenting well while maintaining
its original character. A major highlight is the original
VIN-matching 4-speed transmission still in place. Power is
transferred to a desirable 3.73 posi rear end, a gear ratio that
significantly enhanced the Z28's performance! Overall, the
underside reflects a car that has been carefully preserved rather
than restored, and that's exactly what makes it special.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION: Let's be honest, we don't buy a car like this just to
transport us to the local car show or to get ice cream. We buy a
car like this because it also transports us back to another time.
The sights, the sounds, the smell, and even the way it feels behind
the wheel bring back memories that no modern car can duplicate.
