"You know how it goes: You get better at your job and the reward is
more work. That's OK, you pride yourself on being tough. So it is
with Ford's F-250 Super Duty pickup. It's in that class of pickups
that gets run through the wringer and dumped on - literally - every
day. When a truck already boasts big numbers for payload and
towing, it can be challenging to make it work harder. But more
power under the hood can help, and the F-250's new diesel pumps out
more torque but less pollution. Sounds like this bruiser's ready
for overtime." Autoweb.com, Dec. 2007
For consignment, a 2008 Ford F250 Supercab XL 4x4 long bed pickup
with a title verified 99,407 actual miles. This garage kept example
has a hideaway gooseneck hitch in the bed, a tailgate ladder, and
so much more!
Exterior
While Silver paint adorns the body, it's the billboard sized chrome
grille that first registers in your brain, especially if this one
is coming up behind you! Big side mirrors denote a rig that can tow
while running boards and cab lights tell the story of its size.
Fender vents double as advertisement for what's under the hood and
the sill of the side windows dips to allow for better visibility, a
feature that took decades of truck making to reach the design
table, and we're all better off for it! Out back, a substantial
bumper provides a top surface step while underneath, a receiver and
electrical hook up are positioned for work. The bed is uncovered
and shows use and the gooseneck receiver is in place. As a work
truck we expect a few imperfections and find very few, mostly a
number of small chips, some scratches, a ding on the tailgate, and
some general inclusions.
Interior
Java door panels are made mostly of plastic with vinyl armrests and
while the driver's side shows a touch of use, the other three doors
present cleanly. Inside, the Java vinyl front bench shows wear and
discoloration but is in general good condition and the smaller rear
bench is intact with some cushion indentations that keep them from
being perfect. A big steering wheel front an angular dashboard with
simple round gauges behind plexiglass and fully integrated vents,
A/C panel, and AM/FM/CD player in the center stack, along with a
row of auxiliary toggle switches below. A column shifter allows the
floor to be open and it's covered here with a full rubberized mat.
The formed headliner above undulates cleanly all the way to the
back where a central sliding window resides in the rear window.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, which takes the grille with it when it rises, we
find the fuel injected 6.4 liter Navistar Turbo Diesel V8, rated at
350 horsepower and mated to a 5R110W 5-speed automatic
transmission. Power is split between the Forde Sterling 10.5 " rear
axle and the Dana 60 in front.
Undercarriage
Clean conditions are found on the underside where we only find
minimal surface rust and none of the bad stuff. Here, you'll find a
single exhaust system running through a single on its way to a
termination point under the truck with no muffler seen. Four wheel
power disc brakes are behind each of the 17-inch MB wheels and
suspension is a multi-link with coil springs in front and leaf
springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
We climb up, way up, into the roomy cabin of this supercab and find
an open greenhouse and plenty of headroom. The 6.4 comes to life
with all the promise of a big turbo diesel, delivering good power
and straight tracking on the test loop. We find that all functions
on this rig work as they should and it's off to the truck room for
this versatile Ford. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these
functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot
guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
purchase.
Car people include concours participants, racers, mechanics, and so
many others who would benefit from a big, capable truck like this.
This one has everything you need and room for the family as well.
It's been well kept and is ready to return to the road.
