1982 Phillips Berlina
The Phillips Motorcar Company of Pompano Beach, Florida, sold about 180 of these “Berlina” during the 1980s. Underneath the Mercedes 540K - body is the chassis and L48 V-8 of a late C3 Corvette, and when new a Phillips cost $66,000 (over $196,000 in today’s dollars).
When I purchased the Berlina in 2023, I discovered that the original Corvette engine was not functioning well - I purchased a rebuilt and refurbished engine in Florida (purchase cost + installation and more - $10,000 I have the receipts from the garage) and I also purchased a carburetor and other components so that the vehicle would drive as such a vehicle should drive on the road. (Attracts eyes and brings people to take selfies all day and is an attraction)
The vehicle has only driven about 93 miles since the engine was replaced because it was always stored in a closed garage. I have been asked hundreds of times to rent the vehicle for various events such as driving a bride and groom to the event hall, for grand openings and public relations, but I refused requests so that not everyone would drive and destroy the vehicle.
