"Only Ramcharger offers you a choice of two wheel or four wheel
drive in a full size sport utility. Dodge Ramcharger satisfies your
taste for adventure and still provides family room space and
comfort. Perfect for work or play with all the high tech features
you've come to expect from Dodge such as electronic fuel injection,
stainless steel exhaust system, and an advanced phosphate treatment
and primer for mirror-like Clear Coat paint finish." From the
Ramcharger sales brochure.
For consignment, a 1989 Dodge Ramcharger 150 LE 4x4 with a title
verified 99,912 actual miles. This truck was in California until
recently and received new paint in 2025.
Exterior
Brawny in stance, this full sized SUV looks great in its new coat
of two stage Steel Blue Metallic, augmented by various horizontal
trim pieces that run parallel and continue over the wheel openings
along with broad black molding. The Ram hood ornament is epic and
gives the rig a nose up attitude while the vertical fascia is no
match for brush filled trails. Rear side windows curve onto the
roofline for wider coverage while the rear hatch window has wall to
wall coverage for an overall proportional and tinted greenhouse.
15-inch wheels with 31" tires barely fit the wheel wells which
reach high, allowing for bigger shoes if that's the direction
you're going. As is, there's lots of clearance for rock climbing
and rutted trails. Imperfections include rock chips in the
windshield, minor inclusions, and minor scratches on the rear
chrome bumper.
Interior
The door panels combine vinyl inserts with plastic framing and
carpeted kick panels and both are in great condition. All the cloth
seats including the front buckets and rear bench also present
nicely showing signs of careful stewardship. Dodge puts a pyramid
shaped horn in the center of the steering wheel and woodgrain
applique' on the dashboard where the gauges are concise and easy to
read and a state of the art "information center" is a lighted panel
to the right, just above the A/C panel and AM/FM/Cassette radio.
The rest of the dash is in good condition including the pad under
the carpeted blue cover, a must in the 80's! Your range selector is
on the floor surrounded by light blue carpet, protected by rubber
mats and that carpet is also found in the cargo area where it shows
a bit of use with some wear. Overall, the inside is a virtual time
capsule right down to the added CB radio.
Drivetrain
Driver quality conditions are found under the hood with the 5.9
liter Magnum V8, rated at 193 horsepower and fuel injected. It's
mated to an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic and power is routed
to the 9 " rear and the infamous Dana 44 in front. The rig has
power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust but generally clean and dry condition with the
exception of dampness on the transmission pan and the exhaust pipe
that crosses underneath. That's part of the single exhaust system
flowing through a newer appearing stock style muffler and exiting
behind the right rear wheel. Leaf spring suspension is utilized
front and rear and brakes are configured as power disc fronts and
power drum rears.
Drive-Ability
The width and commanding view of the road is worth the price of
admission here and you instantly feel more capable than 90% of the
cars and SUVs on the road. The V8 carries us over the test loop
without issue and the tires, with their early 2023 date code, track
straight and provide confident turn in. We note the A/C is not
working, the power mirror left/right operation on the driver's side
is not functioning, and the entire power control to the passenger
mirror is also out. That means some hand adjusting for now. All
other functions on this vintage UV work as they should. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
It's no secret that vintage utility vehicles are hot commodities
and this blue Mopar is a desirable model from a time when these
rigs were transitioning from pure work vehicles to soccer mom
hopefuls. In 2026, the transition was complete but this Ramcharger
represents the grandfather of the movement and is an absolute
classic, nicely presented here.
