ENJOY! Paying tribute to the Peter Brock-designed Shelby
Daytona Coupes that took the FIA GT World Championship in 1965, the
sleek Dodge Viper GTS coupe debuted for 1996. A showstopping
concept vehicle was unveiled in 1989 to an overwhelming public
response, prompting high-ranking Chrysler executive Bob Lutz to
remark in 1994 that "It's been the positive response from the
public that's persuaded us that this car simply has to be
built." Far more than a simple closed version of the
original Viper RT/10 roadster, the new GTS featured specific new
chassis and suspension systems, dual airbags, a new steering wheel,
power windows, unique wheels, and more. Speeds up to 180 mph were
on tap from the improved aerodynamics. The Viper's outrageous
8.0-liter V-10 engine was developed further, with 450 factory-rated
horsepower on tap. In GTS-R (Racing) form, the Viper scored a
succession of international racing wins, including overall victory
at the Nrburgring 24 Hours, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and Spa 24
Hours, class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring,
Petit Le Mans, Fuji 1,000 km, Mil Minhas Brasileiras, and
Nrburgring 24 Hours, plus many series championship titles all
between 1998 and 2009.Already rare and highly collectible, this
2001 Dodge Viper GTS is 1 of 129 Viper GTS Coupes (non-ACR models)
produced at Chrysler's Conner Avenue, Detroit specialty
manufacturing plant. Of them, this specimen is 1 of only 88
finished in Deep Blue Sapphire Pearl, a one-year-only paint color.
Offered with just one prior owner, who leased the vehicle when new
and then purchased it, this rare, high-specification 2001 Dodge
Viper GTS has been located in Michigan and Ohio with them until May
2026. As offered, the Viper's odometer reads 11,500 miles at the
time of writing. The Viper's power and performance are
delivered by the Viper-specific 450-horsepower 8.0L V-10 engine,
uprated by another 35 horsepower with a Corsa high-performance
exhaust system. Other highlights include the 6-speed manual
transmission, 3.07 rear-axle ratio, power rack-and-pinion steering
gear, ventilated disc brakes at all four corners, and a rigid
rectangular-steel tubular frame mounting the Viper's RTM fiberglass
body panels. The Cognac Connolly leather interior, a $750 option,
includes the $1,100 Code AGF Comfort Group, adding air conditioning
and an Alpine CD stereo system. Other desirable amenities include
power windows, locks, and mirrors. Of interest to Viper fans and
collectors, this 2001 Dodge Viper GTS features several placements
of the original Viper logo, nicknamed "Sneaky Pete," which debuted
with the first Vipers in 1992 and continued in use through 2002. A
custom bra protects the Viper's front end.Carrying fascinating
early history, including the influence of auto-industry titans
including Bob Lutz and Carroll Shelby, the Viper is quite likely
one of the most audacious sports cars ever produced in America.
This rare, high-specification 2001 Dodge Viper GTS also carries the
halo of dozens of racing victories scored by its racing brethren.
Offered with a clean Carfax vehicle-history report and a Monroney
label reprint confirming its factory equipment and options, this
