1968 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Restomod - LS3 / Roadster Shop
SPEC Chassis / Custom Red Leather
This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible is a high-level custom build
completed in 2026, combining timeless first-generation Camaro
styling with a modern LS3 drivetrain, Roadster Shop SPEC-series
chassis, custom red leather interior, and premium pro-touring
hardware throughout. Finished in white with a red soft top over a
custom red leather cabin, this Camaro has the classic RS-inspired
look buyers love, backed by the engineering and drivability
expected from a serious modern restomod.
Built around a Roadster Shop SPEC-series chassis, powered by a 6.2L
LS3 V8, and paired with a 4L65E 4-speed automatic transmission,
this Camaro was designed to be far more than a cosmetic build. It
offers modern power, improved handling, upgraded braking,
rack-and-pinion steering, adjustable coilovers, and the kind of
refined presentation that makes it stand out in any collection.
Exterior
The body was refinished in white during the custom build, giving
this Camaro a clean, crisp, and timeless appearance. The white
exterior pairs beautifully with the red soft top and red interior,
creating a striking color combination that feels both classic and
high-end.
The exterior has been upgraded with a cowl hood, rear spoiler,
flush-fit windshield, RS-style grille with hideaway headlights, and
premium Ring Brothers mirrors and door handles. The firewall was
smoothed during the build, helping give the engine bay a cleaner,
more custom presentation.
Additional details include billet hood hinges, polished trim,
chrome accents, and classic first-gen Camaro body lines that remain
instantly recognizable. The result is a car that keeps the soul of
a 1968 Camaro while adding the detail and execution of a modern
pro-touring build.
Wheels & Stance
This Camaro sits on 18-inch Rally-style wheels with chrome center
caps, giving the car a perfect blend of factory-inspired style and
modern performance presence. The wheels are wrapped in staggered
Pirelli P-Zero tires, giving the car a wider, more planted stance
and the traction needed to match the upgraded chassis and LS3
power.
The stance is purposeful without being overdone. It looks classic
at a glance, but the fitment, tire package, and chassis hardware
make it clear this is a serious custom build.
Interior
Inside, the cabin has been completely reimagined with custom red
leather upholstery. The front bucket seats, rear bench, door
panels, dash pad, and custom center console are all trimmed to
match, creating a cohesive, upscale interior that pairs perfectly
with the white exterior and red convertible top.
The cabin features a Lokar shifter, digital stereo, Vintage Air
climate-control system, and Dakota Digital instrumentation. A
Billet Specialties steering wheel frames the gauge cluster, which
includes a 160-mph speedometer, tachometer, dual digital displays,
and readouts for fuel level, voltage, temperature, and oil
pressure.
The result is a cockpit that still feels like a first-generation
Camaro, but with the comfort, finish, and technology expected in a
modern custom build.
Engine & Drivetrain
Power comes from a 6.2L LS3 crate engine, one of the most desirable
modern Chevrolet performance engines. The LS3 is known for its
reliability, broad powerband, strong aftermarket support, and
excellent street manners, making it an ideal choice for a
pro-touring Camaro.
This LS3 has been dressed and upgraded with a fabricated
sheet-metal intake manifold, custom air intake, Holley oil pan, red
Chevrolet-script coil covers, and a clean engine bay presentation.
An aluminum radiator with a custom cover panel and dual electric
fans helps support cooling.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4L65E 4-speed automatic
transmission and a 9-inch rear axle, giving the car a strong and
proven drivetrain combination. Stainless headers feed into a custom
dual exhaust system with a crossover pipe and Borla mufflers,
giving the LS3 the sound and attitude this build deserves.
Chassis, Suspension & Brakes
The foundation of this Camaro is one of its biggest highlights. The
car rides on a Roadster Shop SPEC-series chassis, a major upgrade
over the original unibody-style platform and one of the most
respected chassis solutions in the pro-touring world.
The chassis features fabricated front control arms, rear four-link
suspension, adjustable coilovers, and power rack-and-pinion
steering. This gives the car a much more precise and modern driving
feel compared to a stock first-gen Camaro.
Braking is handled by hydroboost-assisted four-wheel disc brakes
with a Wilwood master cylinder and drilled/slotted rotors. This
setup gives the car the stopping capability needed to match its LS
power and upgraded handling.
The Drive
This Camaro was built to deliver the full restomod experience. The
LS3 provides modern horsepower and reliability, the 4L65E automatic
makes the car easy to drive, and the Roadster Shop SPEC chassis
transforms the way the car feels on the road.
With rack-and-pinion steering, adjustable coilovers, a rear
four-link setup, hydroboost brakes, Vintage Air, Dakota Digital
gauges, and a custom leather interior, this is a Camaro that can be
shown, driven, and enjoyed at a very high level.
The digital odometer indicates under three miles, with
approximately 30 miles driven since the build was completed.
Following completion, the car was offered as the prize for a
charity raffle, after which the winner selected the cash
option.
For anyone looking for a first-generation Camaro convertible with
premium components, modern LS power, show-quality presentation, and
real pro-touring substance, this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible
is an outstanding build.
