In 1963, the full-size Ford Galaxie 500 convertible took many of its styling cues from the popular sporty Ford Thunderbird with its lower roofline and more rakish windshield. There's no denying the influence, but really, it could stand on its own accord—there just isn't anything quite like hitting the road with a top-down convertible. This black-on-black 1963 Galaxie 500 Convertible is a very nice, recently refreshed, rust-free car with some upgraded goodies to go along with it, starting with the engine.
A 390 CI FE engine gave up its crankshaft to be replaced with a 428 to make a 410 CI growler for a little more torque, and it’s mated to a C6 automatic transmission. A Holley Performance carburetor flows the fuel down through an Edelbrock aluminum intake before reaching the aluminum Edelbrock Performer RPM heads. An aluminum Edelbrock water pump keeps coolant flowing while exhaust gasses are expelled through original cast iron headers. This one also comes with power steering, as well as disc brakes on the front. To top it all off, the engine is dressed with a set of Holman Moody valve covers and air cleaner.
Original Black Car with a show quality repaint in factory black fully sanded and buffed to a mirror finish. All of the exterior chrome and brightwork were restored to show quality. A set of American Racing Torq Thrust wheels (15x7 front, 15x8 rear) wrapped in BF Goodrich tires gives it a more updated sporty appeal. The top is in excellent condition with a clear rear window, locks into place securely and goes up and down as it should. Opening the door, you are greeted with nothing but black and chrome in the original style. The pleated black vinyl bench seating has silver welting and buttons to provide tasteful contrasts to the eye. The steering wheel and dash appear as they would from the factory, with a stainless insert running across the center to highlight the heater control, radio and clock. One upgrade not present from the factory is the custom-made cluster holding Holman Moody gauges modeled after the original, which is almost impossible to find these days. This car runs strong and shows beautifully
