Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1976 Porsche 912E. A
one-year-only model intended to replace the 914 (until the 924 went
into production) and positioned as a cheaper four-cylinder
alternative to the 911, these cars have all of the style of a 911
(and arguably better handling characteristics) but at a more
approachable price point. This 912E runs and drives great and is
mechanically well sorted, but definitely has a "rat rod" aesthetic
- if patina is your thing, this is the car for you. Although the
paint is peeling off in sections, 1976 was the first year for
galvanized bodies for both the 911 (and of course also for the
912E) - the body is straight and solid with no known rust. 15-inch
Fuchs wheels are wearing Kumho Ecsta tires with plenty of tread and
2021 date codes.
Interior is complete but showing some wear - the front seats would
benefit from covers or reupholstery. However, the dash is
crack-free and all gauges are clear and working, including the
clock. Blaupunkt Toronto AM/FM stereo with aux input, USB and
bluetooth. Under present enthusiast ownership for the last five
years. Clean and clear Georgia title.
Power comes from the same VW/Porsche flat four that powered the 914
2.0. The engine retains its factory Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection
and was rebuilt under prior ownership. A major engine-out service
in 2023 included a valve adjustment, new valve cover gaskets, and a
complete tune-up. Additional recent service and upgrades under
present ownership includes new vacuum lines, a new battery, rebuilt
shift linkage, new throttle linkage bushings, new fuel injector
connectors and terminals, a new air intake boot, plus sway bars, a
strut brace and a brake job. The gearbox feels particularly good
with no crunchy synchros and no slop in the shift linkage.
This car runs and drives very nicely, and is certainly the cheapest
point of entry for a G-Body Porsche 911/912 (which runs and has a
clear title). It's due for an interior refresh and new paint, or
drive it as is and have the most approachable Porsche in town.
Original owner's book, collapsible spare, and service records from
present ownership are included with the sale. For more information
