This 1968 Pontiac GTO is powered by a documented Butler Performance 461 cubic-inch stroker V8 built from a Pontiac 400 block. Butler Performance is one of the most respected names in the Pontiac world, and documentation for the engine build is included with the sale.
The engine features a forged 4.250-inch stroker crankshaft, Ross forged pistons, Scat H-beam connecting rods, ARP hardware, a hydraulic roller camshaft with Johnson roller lifters, balanced rotating assembly, and Butler Performance machine work. Ported Edelbrock/Butler aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley 770 Ultra Street Avenger carburetor, MSD ignition, and Doug’s headers complete the package.
Backing the engine is a Tremec TKX 5-speed manual transmission that makes the car enjoyable around town and relaxed on the highway. Power is transferred through a 10-bolt rear axle equipped with a limited-slip differential and 3.73 gears. Front disc brakes and upgraded tubular rear suspension further enhance the driving experience.
The drivetrain is unquestionably the centerpiece of this GTO and represents a significant investment that would be difficult to duplicate today.
This GTO is an honest, well-built driver—not a freshly restored show car. It presents well and gets plenty of attention, but there are cosmetic and mechanical items prospective buyers should know about.
An older firewall repair is visible under the hood and is not cosmetically finished to show standards. The vacuum-operated headlight door system currently closes properly but does not return to the open position without repair. There is also some play in the steering at lower speeds that should be addressed by the next owner, although the car tracks straight and drives confidently at highway speeds.
Rather than hiding these items, we prefer to disclose them so buyers know exactly what they’re coming to see.
