1968 Pontiac GTO – Butler Performance 461 Stroker V8 | Tremec TKX 5-Speed | Documented Build
The 1968 Pontiac GTO is one of the most iconic muscle cars of all time, and this example combines classic Pontiac styling with a professionally built Butler Performance drivetrain designed to deliver the kind of power and reliability enthusiasts demand.
Under the hood is a documented Butler Performance 461 cubic-inch stroker V8 built from a Pontiac 400 block. Included with the car are Butler Performance invoices detailing the engine build, which features a forged rotating assembly including a 4.250-inch forged stroker crankshaft, Ross forged pistons, Scat H-beam connecting rods, ARP hardware, hydraulic roller camshaft, Johnson hydraulic roller lifters, balanced assembly, and extensive machine work performed by Butler Performance.
The engine is topped with ported Edelbrock/Butler aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Holley 770 Ultra Street Avenger carburetor, MSD ignition system, and Doug’s headers. The result is a powerful street combination that delivers tremendous torque, strong throttle response, and the unmistakable sound of a built Pontiac V8.
Power is sent through a Tremec TKX 5-speed manual transmission, providing modern drivability and comfortable highway cruising. Out back is a 10-bolt rear axle equipped with a new limited-slip differential and 3.73:1 gears, making this GTO equally at home on the freeway, at a cruise-in, or on a winding back road.
