Sunnyside Chevrolet of Elyria, Ohio in conjunction with Greg's
Sports, Classic, & Muscle is proud to offer for sale this beautiful
1961 Dodge Dart Phoenix
Every seen one? Ok if you have, I'm placing a big bet that you have
never seen one with a cross ram engine. Yep, you read that
correctly it's a 383 dual quad ram engine that came at a cost of
$312.60 - a lot of money in 1961 and a big bump on a car with a
base price of $2,715.00. You may see an occasional cross ram in a
convertible or such but this is one unique old car.
Special ordered by Sergeant Carl Hale in 1961 at S&M Dodge on
Geary Street in San Francisco. In the January 1961 edition of Motor
Trend Magazine, they tested a D500 Ram 4 door hard top and said "It
is inconceivable that anyone who intends to use his automobile on
the street would desire-or could handle-more neck-snapping
acceleration and higher usable speed than are provided by this
combination." That's all Sergeant Geary needed to read- he had to
have one. Not only did he buy it- he drove it and thank goodness
kept his paperwork- We have his story, we have a copy of the
original window sticker, purchase agreement, broadcast sheet and
more. This is a unicorn and it's a fully documented one.
Equipped with a Torqueflight Trans, Convenience Accessory Group,
Appearance Accessory Group, Safety Accessory Group,
Heater/Defroster, "Airfoam" Seat Rear, Deluxe Steering Wheel, Power
Lok Differential, Music Master Radio and more this car came in at
an MSRP of $3,900.10. Wowsa that some dough. As a point of
perspective, the base price of a new Corvette in 1961 was
$3,943.00. I'll take the Phoenix thank you. Check out the driver
side only headrest built into the front seat- truly unique.
We can't help but smile when we look at the spot-on front license
plate "Shhh! I'm Sleeping". This is the ULTIMATE SLEEPER. It
transcends cool.
Sporting a very correct and honest restoration this car is
impressive to drive- and a bit of a handful. Pull this one into any
car show and they may glance at first, open the hood and they will
come flocking over. Guaranteed.
Drive it, show it, keep it in a bubble and polish it as a prized
possession, the choice is yours once you make it yours.
We stand behind our thoughts on this car by offering our travel
expenses guarantee- come see the car and if we have materially
misrepresented its condition we will gladly pay half of your travel
expenses up to $500.00- this offer had been in place since we sold
our first classic and we haven't paid the money yet.... We pride
ourselves on having good cars and representing them properly.
