For Sale: 1956 Chevrolet Nomad in Sterling, Illinois

Vehicle Description

The 1956 Chevrolet Nomad was a premium, two-door "halo" station wagon based on the upscale Bel Air platform. It stood out during the iconic Tri-Five era for its unique pillarless hardtop profile, sloping rear roofline and signature wraparound rear glass. Despite its striking design, low sales over its limited production run have made it a highly prized rarity among modern classic car collectors. This particular example was frame off restored approximately 15 years ago. During its restoration the colors were changed from Sierra Gold with Adobe Beige inserts to Matador Red with Ivory inserts and the interior was changed from Copper Vinyl with Tan Patterned Cloth inserts to Ivory Vinyl with Black Patterned Cloth inserts. The current owner purchased this in 2020 and wanted to make mechanical upgrades and figured since the original engine was not available that he would install one of the nicest V8’s on the market. He ended up going with a Blue Print Deluxe 350ci V8 crate engine rated at 405hp. When it was installed, it was basically turned into a wolf in sheep’s clothing as the exterior is all stock with the exception of the wheels and the same with the interior except for the Dakota Digital Analog Guage Cluster and Vintage Air A/C. There is a long list of other items added at the same time which include a front disc brake conversion, a power steering conversion, a new Ididit steering column, an aluminum radiator, a chrome engine dress-up kit, an electronic ignition, ceramic headers and it sounds just plain nasty ripping through its new dual performance exhaust. In 2024 a freshly built performance 700R4 was installed as well as a new 9” rear end so that the 405hp is controlled without missing a beat. The presence of this car is undeniable with its gorgeous two-tone paint, sparkling chrome, tinted windows and sweet Cragar’s. Based on its present condition we would very conservatively classify this as a # 3 car. As such we would appraise it at $91,770.00. We are serious about finding a new home for this timeless classic and have priced it accordingly so if you like what you see time is of the essence!
