Restoration & Body Condition
Today, the car wears a stunning color change to British Racing
Green, which completely transforms its personality and pairs
perfectly with the convertible lines. The older respray easily
rates as a strong "B+" grade finish, exhibiting a deep metallic
flake and an excellent, rich shine. As is expected with an older
vintage repaint, there are standard minor blemishes upon close
inspection, and our paint testing indicates some signs of body
filler used during past cosmetic work. However, the car is
structurally solid, safe, and completely rot-free in all the
critical unibody areas of concern that usually plague these cars.
The body panels remain straight with no evidence of major
historical accident repair. All of the exterior chrome, trim
pieces, and glass present beautifully. Complementing the dark green
paint is a brand-new, flawlessly installed black convertible soft
top that is in absolutely perfect condition.
Powertrain & Driving Dynamics
Mechanically, this Monza is dialed in as a top-tier driver. Under
the rear deck lid sits a 110-horsepower flat-six engine equipped
with a dual-carburetor setup, which provides brisk power and a
lively driving experience. The engine block suffix reads "YN,"
designating it as a correct 110hp 1964-model block. Given how close
this car was built to the transition period, it is entirely
possible that this motor was installed very early in its life or at
the factory. The engine always fires right up effortlessly, idles
smooth, and runs entirely smoke-free. Power is sent to the rear
wheels via the highly desirable, factory-ordered 4-speed manual
transmission, which shifts beautifully with a crisp, confident
clutch pedal feel.
Driving this Corvair is an absolute joy-it accelerates cleanly,
handles corners with classic rear-engine agility, and stops
straight and smooth. The suspension is tight, tracking straight
down the road without any unwanted clunks or rattles. The car rides
on a set of tires with excellent tread remaining, though we do note
some typical dry-cracking on the sidewalls from age.
Interior & Functionality
On the inside, the factory black vinyl bucket seat interior remains
in fantastic shape. All essential electronics are up to par: the
headlights, wipers, heater fan, and the newer aftermarket digital
radio all work exactly as they should. Please note that the door
locks are currently missing their keys, though we are actively
working to have a set cut for the next owner. The car comes
complete with two full sets of factory shop manuals as well as a
collection of spare factory parts.
