The Buick Reatta was originally penned as a two seat sports car for
Buick. After much contemplation and focus on the brand's buyers, it
was decided to come out with an older luxury minded buyer's car,
with front wheel drive, a 2 door coupe, comfortable interior and
soft ride. Today the Reatta stands out for its "futuristic" styling
and driver interface. It was one of the least expensive handmade
modern cars produced at the Lansing Craft Center, with each car
including a "craftsman's log" of its builders.
For consignment, a 1990 Buick Reatta convertible with a title
verified 9,901 actual miles. Other than the dealership, this is a
one owner car, highly pampered and always garaged. If a low
mileage, original example of Buick's unique two seater is on your
radar, this might be the one you've been waiting for!
Exterior
Bathed in its original Bright Red paint and accented by a gold
pinstripe, the uniquely shaped Reatta is instantly recognizable
with hidden headlights and flush wraparound tail lights that span
the entire width of the car with a reflective band. A tan canvas
top caps this 2 seater and has a glass window with defrost feature
and presents in great shape. Side moldings in the middle are red
and add a chrome topper to race around the car to create some
interest on the red along with Reatta call out on each side in
their unique font. 15-inch aluminum wheels with sunburst emblems in
the center are wrapped in 205/75R15's with a late 2023 date code.
Imperfections include a scuff on front bumper and some separation
as a result, a scuff on the rear bumper wrap around and paint
peeling from the back surface, various minor chips, edge wear on
side molding, various minor scuffs.
Interior
Handsome door panels covered in tan with black faceplates to the
hardware and switchgear, further complemented by the carpet insert
on the bottom. Both doors appear in very nice condition. Tan
leather buckets have complex linear stitching, and the driver's
side shows some very light wear usage; the passenger side is in
great shape. Compartment doors behind the seats are covered in low
plush carpet which continues on the footwell floors in great shape
and protected by matching mats. Our steering wheel is pure 90's and
fronts a flat dash panel that sports nifty fluorescent gauge
displays in GM's blue LCD configuration and it all feels a bit like
a video game! The center stack is canted slightly towards the
driver and contains the A/C controls and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD unit,
but fret not purists as the original radio is included. Below is
the shifter in the center console over a plastic panel, all in
great condition. Let's not overlook the change holder, a relic of
the 80's when people or catch baskets worked the toll booths. Both
the boot that holds the stowed top and the trunk in back are lined
in gray cloth panels and present cleanly.
Drivetrain
Clean conditions prevail under the hood where we find the 3.8 liter
V6, fed fuel with fuel injection and rated at 185 horsepower. A
4T60E 4-speed automatic transmission is on board and keeps power at
the front wheels and 2.97 gearing. There is A/C which was converted
to 134A in 2025 and our battery is from 2024, according to our
consignor.
Undercarriage
Showing some age but not much use is the originally configured
underside, featuring a single exhaust that flows through the
factory muffler which emits twin steel pipes to serve as exhaust
tips. Power disc brakes are equipped on the front and rear and
suspension is independent at both ends with coil springs in front
and a transflex leaf in back.
Drive-Ability
We hope in this fresh '90 and hit the test loop in this unique 2
seater, one of many we've handled at the mall but by fall the
lowest mileage example yet! As such, the car does everything well
with the kind of personal luxury sportiness that attracted buyers
30 years ago. All functions on this convertible operate as they
should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions
were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee
these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Seeing how many people bought Reattas as second or pleasure cars
back in the day, low mileage examples are not uncommon. But sub
10,000 mile cars are and this one serves as a clean representation
as Buick's daring attempt at a sporty two seater and while interest
has waned in the past, Reattas now featured almost exclusively at
car shows and garnering more attention than ever.
