Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1960 Volkswagen Type 2
Transporter Double Cab T1 Pickup Truck (or Doka, from the German
Doppelkabine). This Doka was purchased out of California by the
current owner in 2017; it was advertised then as a "no expense
spared restoration" and it remains in beautiful, show-ready
condition today. Finished in the lovely colors of Birch Green and
Pearl White over a deluxe bus interior. Attention to detail abounds
with many NOS parts used in the restoration and nice touches such
as a "barndoor" steering wheel, shifter extension and Blaupunkt
radio.
Paint and interior finishes are excellent over a very straight
body. Correct interior materials were used and still show as
freshly restored; custom coco mats overlay correct rubber floor
coverings. Details such as tailgate and side gate hinges and
latches, plus the finish in the engine compartment and bed floor
are impressive. This example retains the early side gate stampings
(1959 and early 1960).
Power comes from a dual-port 1600 bus engine that was advertised by
the previous owner as being professionally rebuilt to 2100cc. It is
running two Weber carbs and has been recently upgraded with a new
distributor, tune up items and new fuel pump by a local VW
specialist. The transmission has "freeway flyer" gearing; this
along with the increased engine output allows for a T1 that you can
actually drive on the highway and keep up with traffic around town.
Porsche Mahle "gasburner" wheels are fitted along with front disk
brakes. Invoices dating to 2000 are included along with two
original owners manuals (one in English and one in German) and an
original workshop manual. This split window is ready to be driven
and shown; it turns heads everywhere it goes and needs nothing
except for a new owner.
