1965 Shelby Cobra For Sale - Exacting Re-creation Of The First 427
Competition Cobra CSX 3002
LMC is very proud to offer for sale this re-creation of the 1965
Shelby Cobra CSX 3002.
Mike Shoen is one of the most famous Cobra historians and the first
to recognize the importance of the cars. He had begun purchasing
original Cobras in the late '60s into the '70s and purchased the
famous CSX 2299 Daytona Coupe directly from Shelby himself. Shoen
was the first major Cobra collector; he found and owned only the
most important Cobras including the first Cobra race car, the only
unrestored FIA roadster, a four-time winner, the Cobra team
Bartoletti transporter, an original Cobra team trailer and three
original Daytona Coupes, all at one time - including the Le Mans
winner! Shoen later owned the original of CSX 3002.
CSX 3002 was one of the most significant Cobra's ever built as it
was the first production 427 Cobra and the only 427 factory team
car - raced by top drivers Ken Miles, Bob Bondurant and Phil
Hill.
In 1997, Mike Shoen lent his original CSX 3002 to Hi Tech and
allowed them to copy it for another customer. Hi Tech's goal was to
create an exacting replica utilizing an identical steel frame,
aluminum body and correct components. Early 427 Cobras reflected
the transition between the 289 cars and the later 427 cars. Because
it was the first 427, CSX 3002 had many differences from later 427
Competition Cobras. These differences included forward facing roll
bar, 289 nose opening, rectangular oil cooler nose opening, widened
289 FIA rear fenders, 8 and 6 wheels, baffled fiberglass cold
air scoop, racing windscreen, 289 dashboard, fiberglass racing seat
and a unique assortment of dash instruments including duplicate oil
temperature gauges. This replica incorporates all these
features.
The powerplant is the correct 427ci Side Oiler with Aluminum heads
(painted black), Le Mans rods, solid lifter cam and aluminum water
pump to produce approximately 550hp. This is paired to an
original-type toploader 4-speed manual transmission and 3.54
differential. Spares include: straight-through exhaust, fiberglass
passenger seat and twin water radiator fans for the street.
As original competition Cobras soar in value and are seldom sold,
an exact replica like this is the next best thing.
