For Sale: 1962 Ford Thunderbird in Naarden, Noord Holland

Vehicle Description

“The car of distinction.”

In 1962, America was deep in the heart of the Jet Age, and nowhere was that more evident than in Detroit. Ford’s answer was the second year of the third-generation Thunderbird, better known as the “Bullet Bird.”

But beneath its stylish surface lay something far more interesting. For those wanting more than just comfort, Ford offered the exceptionally rare M-code performance package: a 390 cubic-inch FE V8, fed by not one, not two, but three Holley two-barrel carburetors. In 1962, this was not an option you selected by accident.

This 1962 Ford Thunderbird Convertible is finished in iconic Tucson Yellow, paired with a black interior. The look is completed by classic whitewall tires.

Under the hood sits the highly desirable M-code 390 V8 with its triple-Holley carburetor setup, making this one of the most sought-after and performance-oriented Thunderbird specifications of the model year. And as if that alone were not special enough, fewer than 200 examples were produced, making this Thunderbird a rare sight even within Thunderbird circles.

Where many classic American cars are simply beautiful to admire, this example truly distinguishes itself through its mechanical condition. This Thunderbird has been comprehensively restored, both cosmetically and mechanically, with extensive documentation accumulated over the years. In addition, over the past five years following restoration, the car has received substantial documented maintenance, all with one goal: to make an exceptional car even better.

The car is also equipped with a range of highly desirable factory options, including power steering, power brakes, and power windows — luxury features that were far from commonplace in the early 1960s. Several thoughtful upgrades have also been carried out, including a front disc brake conversion, further improving drivability and usability.

And perhaps the finest party trick of them all: the fully electric convertible top. At the push of a button, the roof elegantly disappears behind the rear seats. For 1962, this was deeply impressive engineering — and truthfully, it remains fascinating to watch even today. Take a moment to enjoy it.

The result is a Thunderbird that perfectly captures the spirit of the Jet Age, finished in one of its most striking colors and equipped with one of Ford’s most intriguing factory performance options.
