Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this incredibly
well-preserved, low-mileage 1964 AMC Rambler Classic 770 4-door
sedan. This Rambler is a true survivor car with only 24,284 actual
miles, mostly original paint, original engine, and original
interior - and it looks like it's been garaged and pampered its
entire life! The black lacquer paint has held up well over the last
62 years, and it's still in good driver-quality condition, with
minimal touch-ups and imperfections. Up front, there's a flush
single-plane aluminum grille flanked by side-by-side headlights
with bright bezels and a nice chrome bumper beneath. Brightwork
continues as you walk around to the side of the car with windshield
trim, wiper arms, drip mail molding, window trim, body side molding
with "770" call-outs, rocker molding, door handles, side mirror,
and a "Classic" script badge on the rear quarter. The collective
effect of all of this brightwork against the black body makes this
Rambler a real looker! The wheel & tire choice goes perfectly with
the look - steel wheels with OEM hubcaps all wrapped in American
Classic white wall tires. Around back, you'll find stylish oval
taillamps with bright bezels and a decorative panel on the trunklid
with "Rambler Classic" badging. Take a peek under the car and see a
single exhaust, newer coil-over rear shocks, and undercoating that
has kept this beauty rust-free over the years.
Lift the hood to reveal a very clean and stock-appearing engine
bay. At the heart is a 195ci 3.2 litre inline 6-cylinder still
wearing what appears to be its original blue paint. It's topped
with a blue valve cover that still has a portion of its original
decal still on it. There's a 2-barrel carburetor that's topped with
a correct green air cleaner with "Tri-Poised Power" decal. The
"Tri-Poised Power" was an innovative engine mounting system
introduced by American Motors Corporation (AMC) in the early 1960s.
Designed to improve ride quality, the system cradled the engine at
its center of gravity using three mounting points-typically two
motor mounts and one rear transmission mount-to significantly
reduce engine vibration and ensure smoother power transfer. The
alternator, plug wires, and distributor all look like they've been
replaced in the recent past. Looking around, you'll see that this
Rambler is also equipped with power steering, power drum brakes,
and dealer-installed A/C (present, but inop.). The trusty
6-cylinder is mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission that sends
power to the rear wheels with smooth shifts. Though not a quick
car, it's a pleasure to drive out on the road - easy to steer with
solid braking power and a smooth ride..
Prepare to be impressed when you open the driver's door! This
Rambler still retains it's original dark red interior, and it looks
amazing for its age. All of the red vinyl door panels are in good
condition (with some wear showing on the front armrests) with
cool-looking original handles and window cranks. The split bench up
front and the bench in back are covered in red vinyl with red
fabric inserts, and they're in fantastic condition. The exterior
sides of the front seats are outfitted with gleaming chrome for a
luxurious entry view. The red hook & loop carpet, like the rest of
the interior, is in excellent shape, and it's kept nice with rubber
& carpet floormats that look like they could be original. Overhead
is a tight silver and red fabric headliner and a set of silver
visors. Ahead of the driver is a 2-spoke OEM steering wheel with a
bright working horn ring. Also on the column is a shifter for the
3-speed automatic. Behind the wheel is a very stylish painted steel
dash topped with a crack-free vinyl dashpad. Ahead of the wheel is
a 120mph speedometer flanked by fuel and temp gauges (there are
warning lights for oil and battery). The odometer reads a mere
24,284 miles, and the title confirms them as actual! To the left of
the speedo are controls for lights, fan, and temperature, while to
the right are controls for the wipers (inop.), air director, and
the ignition. There's a bright ribbed band that runs horizontally
across the dash and ends with a "Rambler 770" badge on the glovebox
door. In the center of the dash are three bright-trimmed circular
air vents and the original Rambler "All-Transistor" AM push-button
radio that plays through a speaker in the dash. Mounted under the
dash is a Medallion FM converter that allows the driver a wider
array of music choices. Also under the dash is a dealer-installed
A/C system (currently inop.). Inside the glovebox is a working
courtesy light, an original owner's manual, accessories manual,
stereo instructions, hang-tag, and a color brochure from AMC. Also
in the glovebox are most of the Cincinnati BMV inspection cards
from 1964 to 1974. Around back in the trunk is a vinyl mat, a
bias-ply BF Goodrich Silvertown spare tire, a factory jack, and a
booster cable bag.
If you're looking for a highly original 60's cruiser that's sure to
be a hit at any car show or cruise-in, you need to take a hard look
at this Rambler 770. It's turn-key ready to hit the road and enjoy
today! Finding another Rambler with this low mileage and in this
condition is going to be like finding a needle in a haystack, so
don't miss out on this opportunity - give our friendly staff a call
