The El Camino was first introduced in 1959 as Chevrolet needed a
coupe pickup to compete with the Ranchero. Production stopped
briefly in 1960 before it was reintroduced in 1964 at which time it
was based on the Chevelle platform. This created a vehicle that had
the look of the iconic muscle car but incorporated the utilitarian
value of a pickup. It really is the best of both worlds! This 1972
El Camino is a great driving classic that has one of the most
popular looking muscle car front ends of the 70s. It has just been
gone through and refreshed to make it ready for the road. It is
painted in a clean Red with Black racing stripes combined with a
Black vinyl top. One very unique feature of the car is it has had a
moon roof added in place. It wears its factory style stainless
trim, chrome bumpers, and has the SS grill. It also has the SS cowl
hood with hood pins. The lights all work and the tail light sockets
were replaced. The SS wheels have been blacked out and it has the
SS center caps and new Sport Radial tires.
The drivetrain has 38,000 miles since being gone through and the
454 V8 runs strong. A majority of the components under the hood are
painted Black and it is topped off with a Black Chevrolet air
cleaner. The alternator, battery, gas tank, 4 barrel Edelbrock
carburetor and custom dual exhaust (with headers) are all new. It
sounds great and runs down the road well. The transmission is a
Turbo 400 automatic combined with a 10 bolt rear end which has been
gone through as well. It has power brakes, power steering and air
conditioning making driving it very comfortable.
The interior of it has been redone with new Black upholstery with
custom stitching. It has a split bench seat with aftermarket 3
point beats for both driver and passenger. The new gauge cluster
and bezel is from Digital gauges but are analog and all working.
The AC vents are all mounted in dash indicating they are factory.
The Forever Sharp custom half wrap steering wheel is in place and
it has a column shifter.
This classic Elky has had all the mechanical systems address and is
ready to be driven and enjoyed.
