For Sale: 1967 BMW 1600 in Atlanta, Georgia

Vehicle Description

HSR Group 3 Eligible – Fresh 2.0L Build – Race Ready Located in Cumming, Georgia Offered for sale is a beautifully prepared and extensively developed 1967 BMW 1600-2 vintage race car inspired by the iconic Heidegger Racing Team 1975 Le Mans-winning BMW 2002 Group 2 car. Acquired by the current owner in 2015, this early-production 1600-2 has since undergone substantial race preparation, mechanical refurbishment, and continuous development to create a competitive, reliable, and visually striking HSR-ready vintage racer. This chassis, VIN 1515307, is an exceptionally early example of the BMW 1600-2. It is build number 15,307 out of total 1602 production of 266,612 units built between 1966 and 1975, and car number 2,063 produced during the 1967 model year. The owner was advised it may be the third-oldest 1602 sold in the United States, though this has not been independently verified. The car wears a period-inspired white Le Mans-style livery with BMW Motorsport tri-color striping modeled after the Heidegger Racing Team Group 2 cars. Exterior modifications include original Schnitzer-style fender flares, a front air dam, Turbo-style rear spoiler, hood pins, driving lights with Hella covers, polycarbonate rear windows, and custom side-exit exhaust outlets. The car presents extremely well overall while retaining the authentic character expected of a long-time vintage race car. Power comes from a freshly rebuilt BMW M10 inline-four reportedly completed between 2024-2025. The engine is said to displace 2.0 liters and features dual Weber carburetors with velocity stacks, tubular headers, an aluminum radiator, oil catch can, and extensive internal refresh work including a replacement block, pistons, rings, bearings, connecting rods, distributor, and cylinder head machining. The car produces approximately 210 horsepower and has seen only one race weekend since completion of the rebuild. At Road Atlanta during the Mitty 2026. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission. The car is currently fitted with a 4.10 differential, with an additional 4.11 ratio differential included for tighter circuits such as Barber Motorsports Park. The stripped and race-prepared cockpit features: OMP racing seat Schroth harnesses mounted to Sparco sliders Full roll cage with door bars New Fire suppression system Custom aluminum door panels MSD ignition module OMP suede steering wheel Auxiliary gauges monitoring oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage New radio New antenna New Flagtronics unit The car rides on nearly new 13” Minilite-style wheels imported from the UK and mounted with Hoosier R7 slicks measuring 185/60 front and 205/60 rear. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums, with rear brake service completed before recent race weekend. Additional highlights include: HSR Group 3 eligible Passes tech consistently Currently set up for Road Atlanta Log book included Over $80,000 invested since 2015 in maintenance, race prep, rebuilding, and development Long-time, well-known vintage race car Race footage and onboard video available The hope is that the car goes to an enthusiast who will continue to appreciate and actively race it. A turn-key vintage BMW race car with significant early-production history, fresh mechanicals, excellent preparation, and unmistakable Group 2 presence.
