INTRODUCTION: This is not your typical Firebird! Pontiac Historical
Services documented as a genuine 400 4-speed car, this California
built convertible stands out with one of the most striking color
combinations you could put on a muscle car. Between the desirable
factory performance pedigree, the beautifully restored condition,
and the unmistakable presence it has with the top down, this
Firebird delivers the kind of appeal collectors are really
searching for.
EXTERIOR: It certainly has the look, and that's a big part of why
we bought it. The body style itself is handsome to begin with, and
you simply don't see nearly as many of them as you do Camaros. What
really drew me in was the color combination. This is a Los Angeles
built car, and it presents itself very well with a clean, straight
body showing no visible rust or damage. The panels fit nicely, and
being a factory 400 car, it features the desirable twin scooped
hood with a factory hood tach mounted right on top. It's been
repainted its original color, Flambeau Burgundy, and even the name
sounds elegant. The metallic finish is laid out beautifully with a
smooth, glossy shine. Overall, the chrome and trim are straight and
bright. It also features a crisp white power convertible top and is
rolling authentically on restored Rally II wheels with correct lug
nuts and center caps, all wrapped in reproduction Firestone Wide
Oval tires to complete the classic muscle car look.
INTERIOR: The white interior is not only sharp looking, but a great
choice for a convertible because it stays much cooler than black
upholstery on those sunny days. Overall, the interior is in very
good condition. The upholstery, door panels, and armrests have all
been replaced. Down on the floor is nice carpet with embroidered
floor mats and a complete set of factory seat belts. It also
features a center console with the iconic 4-speed Hurst shifter
sticking out of it. The dash area presents very well with its stock
radio, heater controls, instrumentation, and factory steering wheel
all looking proper and clean.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine compartment has a clean, authentic
appearance, just the way it would have looked back in 1969. It
features the correct WT 400-330hp engine painted Pontiac Blue with
stock exhaust manifolds, factory carburetor, and the proper
dual-snorkel air cleaner topped with a freshly chromed lid. The
correct valve covers also wear fresh chrome for a crisp
presentation. The components throughout are very tidy, including a
fresh looking alternator along with clean brackets and pulleys.
It's equipped with power steering and power brakes with a cadmium
plated booster. The compartment is complete with the proper fan
shroud, hood insulation, and even the windshield squirters are
hooked up.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The trunk compartment is nicely detailed with
matching Burgundy paint under the trunk lid and in the jamb. Inside
is solid metal finished with correct style spatter paint. It's
complete with a new well liner, a rubber plaid trunk mat, and a
collapsible spare tire assembly.
UNDERSIDE: The underside of this car presents very nicely and shows
proper maintenance throughout. The steering and suspension have
been checked over and appear to be in great working order, as does
the brake system, featuring disc brakes up front and drums in back.
The e-brake assembly is hooked up and functioning properly. It has
a fresh, correct-style dual exhaust system with the proper
transverse muffler, and the fuel tank was recently replaced as
well. Looking up at the motor, everything is clean, including a
fresh looking starter. The 4-speed transmission operates properly,
and the shift linkage along with the reverse light switch were just
replaced. Out back is the correct rear end equipped with 3.36 posi
gears. The floors appear solid and are neatly painted black for a
clean presentation.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION:Sure, there are other Firebirds out there, but are they
factory born 400 4-speed convertibles? Are they wearing this
stunning color combination? I didn't think so. This one rises above
the crowd with its documented pedigree, California roots, beautiful
restoration, and undeniable curb appeal. It's an excellent choice
for someone who wants something more distinctive than the ordinary
Camaro crowd.
