Beautiful 2000 BMW M5 80,000 miles
The 2000 BMW M5 is widely regarded as one of the greatest sport sedans ever built—and for good reason. Part of the legendary E39 generation, this model represents a perfect balance between raw performance, understated design, and everyday usability.
At its heart is a naturally aspirated 4.9-liter V8 (S62), producing 394 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission—something increasingly rare and highly sought after today.
Key performance stats:
0–60 mph: ~4.8 seconds
Top speed: Electronically limited to 155 mph
Red-line: 7,000 rpm
Beyond the numbers, what truly sets the E39 M5 apart is its driving experience. Hydraulic steering provides exceptional road feel, the chassis is perfectly balanced, and the car manages to feel both refined and aggressive depending on how it’s driven.
Other highlights include:
Limited-slip differential for true performance handling
M-tuned suspension for precision and comfort
Subtle yet muscular styling that has aged remarkably well
Hand-assembled engine, emphasizing BMW’s motorsport pedigree
Today, the E39 M5 is increasingly recognized as a modern classic. Enthusiasts and collectors alike value its analog driving feel, timeless design, and the fact that it represents the end of an era before turbocharging and heavy electronic intervention became the norm.
This M5 comes with a story that is as compelling as the car itself.
Originally purchased directly off the showroom floor at the Los Angeles Auto Show in March of 2001, this car wasn’t just another dealership delivery—it was hand-selected at one of the most prestigious automotive events in the country. The buyer was the CEO of my company at the time, who chose the car as a personal gift for the company’s Vice President of Operations.
At the time, the VP was overseeing international operations and spent much of his time abroad. As a result, the car saw very limited use during its early years and remained more of a prized possession than a daily driver. By 2007, with approximately 20,000 miles on the odometer, I had the opportunity to purchase the car from him.
Since then, I have been the sole owner. The car currently has 80,001 miles.
Over the years, the car has been meticulously cared for. It has always been garage-kept and covered when not in use. This level of care is immediately evident in the condition of the original paint, which remains exceptionally well-preserved and continues to reflect the attention it has received throughout its life. I have always used BMW 20/50 engine oil and kept up on oil changes and maintenance throughout the life of the car.
Over the past year, in preparation for sale, I’ve invested approximately $8,300 to bring the car into excellent mechanical condition. All receipts are available and will be included with the vehicle.
Recent work includes:
New tires
Camshaft position sensor replacement
Valve cover gasket sets replaced
Oil filter housing/mount service
Rear brake service (pads, rotors, and sensors)
New spark plugs
New wiper blades
New air filters
Comprehensive inspection and overall checkup
Cosmetically, the car presents very well overall, but there are three minor imperfections (all shown in photos):
Small scratch on the front driver-side quarter panel
Small gouge on the front bumper
Clouding on the driver-side rear-view mirror glass
These are relatively minor and do not detract from the overall appearance or driving experience of the car.
