The 1955 Chevrolet Cameo was a high-end, factory-custom pickup
introduced as part of Chevrolet's Task Force truck series, marking
a bold shift toward styling and comfort. It combined car-like
styling with a truck. Slab-sided, fiberglass-reinforced pickup bed.
Two-tone paint (1955 only in Bombay Ivory with red accents). Full
chrome trim, wraparound rear window, and sedan-style rear bumper.
1955 Cameo 3100 was the rarest variant, with only 5220 built. The
1955 Chevrolet Cameo was a revolutionary, limited-run luxury
pickup.
This is a full frame off build. The frame has been boxed 3x5 rails,
designed for wide rear tires. Parallel four link rear suspension
with QA1 coil overs. Front suspension has QA1 Tubular "A" arms and
QA1 coil overs. Both front and rear suspension have anti-sway bars.
Steering is a breeze with power steering. Even has 4-wheel disc
brakes! The brakes have 12" rotors powered by a Hydro-Boost system.
A 15-gallon fuel tank by "Tanks." High pressure fuel pump with
return pluming for possible FI carburation. The differential is
3.43.1 gears with Auburn Posi traction. There is a frame mounted
trans cooler. Take a close look at the 17" cast aluminum Rallye
wheels and Fuson tires 235/55R17 and 225/50R17.
The engine was built by Mike Gipson and is a 383 Stroker with a
Scat Industries rotating assembly, and a Comp RV high torque cam.
Real power comes from Edelbrock aluminum heads with roller rockers.
Carburation is by Quick Fuel, and a HEI distributor. Cooling is
taken care of by a Champion 4-core aluminum radiator. The
transmission is a 700R4 with a lockup torque converter controlled
by Bowler system. The exhaust was built by Mike Sadder. It is 3"
tube with flex sections to eliminate vibration. An "H" pipe
crossover and electric cutouts. The mufflers are Borla XP's.
Luxury interior touches such as two-tone white and red powered
bucket seats. A full bench seat also comes with the Cameo that has
been done in the two-tone red and white (see photos). The door
panels have the custom touch with two-tone white and red. The head
liner is done in red as the sun visors. Upgrade to electric wipers.
The dash has a full array of Auto Meter gauges; water temp, oil
press, fuel level, volts, speedometer, and a 7000-rpm tachometer. A
chrome 5-position tilt steering column. Summit Billet gas and brake
pedals. Very high-end BOSS Audio system with 4-speakers and a sub
with power amp. A Sirius XM radio. Yes, the Cameo has heat and
defroster!
The Cameo comes with a folder of build receipts. The build was from
2018-2022. This includes the custom milled Hickory bed. All chrome
has been done or replaced. The gas filler has been relocated to
driver's side bed with a powered opener. The build includes
complete rewire and updated fuse box. The lights are LED. This is
one of the finest road handling '55 Cameo's available.
