Vehicle Overview
Few American muscle cars can match the combination of rarity, documented provenance, and authenticity found in this 1966 Plymouth Satellite Hemi. Originally built for export to France and displayed at the 1966 Paris Auto Show, this remarkable Satellite represents an extraordinary chapter in Chrysler's international performance history. As evidence of its export destination, the car retains its original kilometer speedometer, a feature unique to its European delivery and seldom encountered on American-built Hemi Mopars.
Following its time overseas, the Satellite returned to the United States and has since undergone a concours-quality restoration while retaining the originality and authenticity that distinguish the finest collector-grade Mopars. Finished in its factory Silver Metallic exterior over a Red vinyl bucket seat interior, the car presents exactly as one would expect from one of the most thoroughly documented and carefully restored Hemi B-bodies in existence.
Power comes from the car's original 426 cubic-inch Street Hemi V8 equipped with dual Carter four-barrel carburetors, backed by its original heavy-duty A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission and original 8¾-inch rear axle. During a comprehensive inspection conducted by respected Mopar authority Dave Wise of MMC Detroit, the engine, transmission, rear axle, VIN, body stampings, trim tag, chassis, and numerous factory identification markings were verified as correct and original to the vehicle. Wise ultimately rated the car a remarkable 1.2 on MMC Detroit's six-point evaluation scale and described it as "one of the nicest, if not the nicest, 1966 Hemi Satellites that I have ever seen in many years."
The body retains its original sheet metal, factory glass, frame rails, floor pans, and structural components, with no evidence of rust, patch panels, or accident damage. Throughout the inspection, factory stampings, die markings, welds, and production details were found to be consistent with an exceptionally original automobile that received a restoration focused on authenticity rather than interpretation.
Supporting the car is an exceptional collection of original documentation, including its IBM card, Certicard, owner's manual, restoration photographs, and extensive vehicle history. It has also been awarded a Concours Gold Certificate at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, recognizing both the quality of its restoration and its authenticity. Combining international provenance, documented originality, concours recognition, and one of the most respected authentication reports in the Mopar hobby, this Satellite represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire one of the finest surviving examples of Chrysler's legendary Street Hemi era.
