Hagerty.com

For consignment, a 1947 Chrysler New Yorker Club coupe with a title verified 73,054 actual miles. This stunning example is the embodiment of 40's styling taken to the extreme with massive proportions and gleaming trim.

Exterior
For the full impact, soak in this Hawaiian Blue car in profile and see how the sweeping body curves and elongated front fender work perfectly with the windows that contour to the arching roofline rather than defining it. The sheer length is visually tempered by the spear trim over each wheel opening and the bold stainless that starts on the hood, underscores the cabin, and finds some slight curvature on the rear deck. An added third brake light is here on the decklid, trimmed in chrome and escorted by regal tail lights and underscored by decorative chrome bumper and handle. 15-inch wheels wear chrome dome cover and are wrapped in white walls which are not depicted in the sales brochure but look the part! The massive front grille stands tall and three bumper guards front the beast like pawns on a chessboard. Imperfections include some pitted, dull, or surface rusted metals, bubbling and orange peel in the paint, dings in trim and wheel coverings, touched up chips and scratches, and random scratches and scuffs.

Interior
Deco trim and clean, tan cloth adorn the door panels and both present nicely, opening to a blue cloth split bench seat, column tufted, and a rear bench, also in blue but showing numerous holes in the cloth. It's not hyperbole to say the steering wheel and dash is a work of art, dark blue mixing with chrome trim and switchgear, nicely configured and overall clean, with an AM radio and vertical clock flanking a grilled speaker in jukebox like showmanship. Tan corded carpet covers the floor nicely, a blue windlace trimmed tan headliner looks great, and a rubber coated trunk that shows use and surface rust under the mat finishes our assessment of this overall clean interior.

Drivetrain
Age induced driver quality conditions are found under the hood where a 323.5 L-head inline 8 cylinder resides with a 2-barrel carburetor and a horsepower rating of 135. A Fluid Drive transmission sends power to the rear axle with 3.91 gears. The Fluid Drive was heavily touted by Chrysler in '47, writing, "If a man, or a woman will drive a Chrysler with Fluid Drive for one thousand miles, in traffic and out on the open road, he or she will never be satisfied with anything but a Chrysler."

Undercarriage
Some surface rust and the more flakey stuff on outer panels communicate some age, but overall, the underside is clean and intact. A single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and drum brakes are employed on all four wheels. Suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in back.

Drive-Ability
This vintage land yacht sails over our test loop with poise, style, and size, lots of size! The interior is roomy and the outside takes up some real estate, and this was one of the smaller cars in Chrysler's line! Meanwhile, during our test, the engine and brakes work well, but the radio and brake lights, other than the third light, do not. All other functions across the attractive dash and outside of the car work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Show worthy as is, but with just a touch of TLC, this could tip the spectacular scale. If this car was in primer, its proportions and style would still impress. Streets were narrower and garages were smaller, so it's amazing what comes out of the 40's, especially from Chrysler. The illustrations in the '47 sales brochure make it clear, Chryslers were special. This example bears that out.
