The year 1981 heralded the arrival of a true American workhorse,
the Ford F-350. This was not just any pickup; it was a testament to
durability and a beacon of utility in the automotive world. Born
from the illustrious Ford Motor Company, the F-350 was part of the
F-Series lineup, a range that had been serving Americans since
1948. At a time when trucks were gaining popularity for both work
and leisure, the F-350 stood out with its robust build and
no-nonsense performance." Metrommp.com
Up for auction is a 1981 Ford F350 dump truck showing 24,375 miles,
but the true miles are unknown. This work truck is packing a 351ci
V8 engine, presents in fair condition, and has no keys.
Exterior
What's black and white and red all over? This truck, starting with
white paint that makes up the primary body and bed color, accented
with a red pinstripe on the shoulder line of the cab and brightened
with 16-inch steel wheels painted red and extended bed side walls
composed of red painted wood planks. The chrome grille is missing
some parts but the front bumper is all there and in good condition.
Out back, a shortened heavy duty bumper includes a trailer hitch
and tow hooks while mud flaps ride behind the dually wheels.
Finally, cab lights line up on top of the truck letting you know a
wider than average vehicle is coming down the road!
Interior
Black plastic door inserts keep things cleanable on the door
panels, but these show dust and patina. Other than some surface
rust on the hinge and hardware, the black vinyl bench seat is in
fair condition with some dust and compression. The black plastic
steering wheel front an instrument cluster relaying basic
information and a row of compartmentalized idiot lights above to
monitor problems. There's an AM radio in the center and vent levers
while the shifter is floor mounted over the rubber floor liner that
spans the width from door sill to door sill.
Drivetrain
Dusty but complete, the bay houses a 351ci V8 with a 2-barrel
carburetor and a 4-speed manual transmission sending power to the
heavier duty Dana 70 axle in back. Power brakes are here too with
front disc and rear drum.
Undercarriage
The exhaust meets to become a one and travels through a stock style
muffler before the tailpipe hits the air behind the right rear
wheels.
Drive-Ability
No keys for this one so we don't get to hear the 351 come to
life.
