1966 Triumph TR4A (2015 Frame-Off Restoration)
Engine: The engine received a comprehensive rebuild during the 5-year frame-off restoration, featuring 87mm pistons, liners and new mild cam that increase displacement to 2,188cc. The rebuild included replacement of all critical internal components: main bearings, rod bearings, oil pump, water pump, timing chain, ignition coil, and complete wiring harness. Oil pressure reads 25 PSI at idle (800 RPM), indicating healthy engine internals.
Fuel & Ignition Systems: A modern Pertronix electronic distributor provides reliable ignition, while fuel delivery is handled by a Facet 5 PSI electric fuel pump feeding twin Zenith-Stromberg 175CD carburetors. The carburetors were professionally refreshed and tuned in 2025. A spin-on oil filter conversion simplifies routine maintenance.
Drivetrain: The four speed transmission, differential and flywheel where fully rebuilt during the restoration with new internals and seals. The clutch master and slave cylinder were rebuilt in 2024 to reduce required clutch pedal pressure at the request of my wife.
Chassis & Suspension: The frame was soda blasted to bare metal and refinished with protective paint prior to reassembly. A complete suspension overhaul included new shocks and replacement of all wear items with fresh components. Polyurethane bushings were installed throughout for improved durability and handling characteristics. Both fuel and brake lines were replaced with new components for safety and reliability.
Interior: The cabin was completely refurbished with black leather upholstery on all seats and interior panels. New carpeting and interior trim complement the leather work, creating a cohesive, period-correct appearance.
Exterior & Wheels: The body was stripped to bare metal, properly primed, and refinished in classic Triumph British Racing Green lacquer paint. Dayton wire wheels enhance the authentic British sports car aesthetic. Fresh tires were mounted in 2025. Front and rear bumpers re-chromed in 2024. Replacement soft-top and boot were purchased from the Roadster Factory and installed in 2020. All body panels are original.
Instrumentation and Electrical: All Jaeger instrumentation has been refreshed and function properly. Generator, directional signals, lighting systems, and horns operate without issue.
