you drive off in your dream vehicle. The CJ-series of Jeeps is one
of their most iconic, a direct descendant of the WWII units (CJ
standing for Civilian Jeep) and carrying the familiar Jeep formula
through the 80s until the birth of the Wrangler platform in 1986.
As much as we love the later YJ, TJ, JK and JL - the CJ is THE Jeep
that everyone thinks about in their dreams. This particular 1982
CJ-8 Scrambler is also one of the most desirable configurations in
the Jeep line-up with its extended body and longer 103.5-inch
wheelbase over a more common CJ-7. More room for gear, a longer and
more stable wheelbase for highways and trails, they are in many
ways the perfect camping and overlanding platform for the right
type of person. Hardcore, anachronistic, and barbarically simple.A
great daily-driver quality example, the CJ-8 has the venerable 4.2L
straight-six matched to a Tremec T-176 four-speed manual with a
Dana 300 transfer case, a rock solid combo with great parts
support. Underneath, the front axle is a Dana 30 with an AMC20 out
back, and simple leaf springs support the adventure at all four
corners providing plenty of flex, even if it's not as civilized as
late-model Jeeps. But who wants civilized when you're trying to
escape civilization?Cosmetically, the Jeep is in overall great
shape. While a previous owner had the vehicle restored down in
Florida, the paint does show some imperfections - which can be seen
in photos. The CJ-8 presents well, but we want to be upfront about
its condition in that regard. Overall, however, the truck is in
good mechanical shape and has gone through a round of maintenance
to get it ready for any adventure.Modifications include a Pro Comp
lift springs, with 15-inch Ion Alloy wheels wrapped in 32x11.5-inch
BF Goodrich KM2 mud-terrains at each corner. Tubular bumpers were
installed along with the SmittyBilt side-steps, and a Bestop
soft-top roof with zip-out side windows update the overall look and
functionality. Inside, a center console was added with cup holders,
storage, and a hidden AM/FM/CD head-unit. The seats were also
recovered in a durable fabric with custom stitching. The exhaust is
new, with a 6-into-1 header feeding to a dual-tip exit out behind
the rear tires. And probably the best quality of life upgrade,
air-conditioning! Even with the sides of the Bestop removed, it
cuts a lot of the heat out of the passenger space and makes it
practical to run the cabin open even in the southern heat and
humidity.?Whether you're looking for a taste of the Jeep life or a
solid platform for a 4x4 build, this CJ-8 is
waiting.Modifications:Webber 2bbl carbPro Comp 2.5-inch lift
