1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible For SaleThis 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible is a Karmann-built example finished in white with a matching white soft top. The Beetle sedan had been discontinued in the United States in 1977, leaving the Karmann-built Super Beetle Convertible as the only Beetle still sold here. US production would wrap up the following year, making this one of the final years of factory Beetle convertibles built for the American market.Power comes from the factory 1.6L air-cooled flat-four behind the rear seats, fed by Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection the standard US-market setup for 1978 with drive routed through a 4-speed manual transmission and a 3.87 final drive. The car received a substantive mechanical refresh in 2021, including an SAE30 oil service with high-zinc additive (the right approach for an air-cooled engine), a new oil change gasket kit, a full valve cover gasket set, and fresh 80w90 GL4 gear oil. A 2-inch tachometer and a 2-inch oil temperature gauge were added, with the temperature sender plumbed through a customized oil drain plate, giving the driver real-time data on engine speed and oil temperature two metrics that matter on any air-cooled VW.The chassis received the same level of attention. Braking is by drums at all four corners, and during the 2021 service the front drums were machined and fitted with new shoes, hardware, and a new wheel cylinder, while the rears received new shoes, new hardware, and a new German rear drum. A new master cylinder and new front and rear brake hoses tied the system together, along with new front wheel and fuel level sending unit seals. The car rides on four Coker American Classic P195/75R15 tires with 3/4" whitewalls a period-appropriate fitment installed at the same time as a four-wheel alignment that included re-centering the steering wheel.Inside, the cabin is finished in white vinyl, with a radio delete panel keeping the dash clean and the wiring for the added gauges run with fresh primary wire and terminals.The result is a clean, well-sorted late-production Super Beetle Convertible that has been brought up to a usable standard in the areas owners typically have to tackle themselves brakes, fluids, tires, and gauges.NFI Empire specializes in classic, exotic, modified, and luxury vehicles.
