When introduced in 1967, few at Chevrolet imagined that the Gen1
Camaro would eventually become a GM icon like the tri-five Bel-Airs
from a decade earlier. Chevy was simply trying to join the
promising pony-car market, but the Camaro was an instant success
story, one that continues to this day. The original Camaro was
loved by all because of a stylish blend of sculpted bodylines,
distinctive accents and an abundance of performance options. The
'69 Camaro was the final year of that Gen1 model. It featuring a
more aggressive exterior and a wider stance - the designers at GM
had it figured to perfection.
Garnet Red SS Coupe-
This fully restored '69 Camaro SS is a handsome example of this
performance classic. Since Chevrolet did not provide information in
the VIN/Data Tag to determine specific options on these cars, we
have no way of confirming that this Camaro left the factory as an
SS396. However, it is certainly possible that this was a factory
SS396. The professional 2-stage respray of original Garnet Red was
applied in 2015 and is exceptional. The SS side strips are perfect
accents and all chrome/stainless pieces are outstanding. Appearance
elements of the SS model include functional cowl induction raised
hood, front air dam/rear spoiler, fog lights, simulated rear fender
louvers, SS emblems and bright roof drip moldings. GM rally wheels
with trim ring/caps mount 15" BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The
original black vinyl bucket seat interior is in very good
condition. Features include a full console w/wood trim, factory
gauges w/tach, SS wheel and tinted windows.
396ci Big Block / 4-Speed Muncie / 12-Bolt Differential-
A carefully detailed engine compartment is home to a 396ci
big-block. We do not have a full history of the motor, but the
consignor states that it has been completely rebuilt and is a
4-bolt main block. The casting numbers of the rectangular port
cylinder heads, GM intake and 780cfm Holley 4346 carburetor are
correct for the L78 version of the 396. The big Rat is backed by a
Muncie M-20 4-speed transmission w/Hurst shifter which sends torque
to a 12-bolt posi-traction differential with 3.73:1 gears. The
spotless chassis features power steering, power disc/drum brakes
and a custom stainless exhaust. Front and rear suspension
components also appear to have been refreshed at some point in the
past.
This Camaro is a striking example of one of Chevy's best - it would
make your BowTie garage proud.
