Cruisin Classics is proud and excited to present to you this very
special 1969 Z10 Camaro RS/SS. This '69 Camaro Z10 is a rare,
high-performance "coupe version" of the Z11 Indy Pace Car.
Approximately 400-500 of these cars were built (all by order only)
and only around 200 are currently known to exist! They were sold
primarily in the Southwest region (TX, OK, NM, AZ), but two are
known to have been sold in Tennesee. On paper, the Z10 RPO code
represented "Special Accent Striping", but it entailed a great deal
more for the car. All of the Z10's feature Dover White paint,
Hugger Orange Z/28-style hood and decklid stripes, cowl induction
hoods, and both the Rally Sport and Super Sport packages. This
particular specimen was produced at the Norwood plant during the
third week of April 1969 and underwent a restoration in the late
'80's. The car was shown, post-restoration, and garnered some high
accolades - top points car at the Camaro, Chevelle, Nova Nationals
in 1990, top 25 Grand Run in Pigeon Forge TN in 1990, #2 points car
in Camaro class at the 1990 Super Chevy Show, first Z10 coupe to
ever be entered into the prestigious judging of the Red White and
Blue Concours, and it was invited to be displayed at the Brickyard
for a pace car reunion. Let's take a deeper dive into this very
rare Camaro....
This Z10 comes to us today dressed in a respray of its correct
colors - Oxford White with Hugger Orange stripes. We suspect that
the car was painted during the resoration back in the late 80's,
and though it looks great from five feet away, a close inspection
reveals some lacquer cracking on nearly every body panel. Viewed
from the front, you'll see a cowl hood fronted by a "Camaro by
Chevrolet" badge on the drivers side, a black eggcrate grille with
"SS" badging, working hideaway RS headlights, a bright chrome
bumper with (optional) guards, and a black chin spoiler. Move
around to the side and you'll see loads of gleaming chrome trim,
including windshield trim, drip rail molding, window trim, side
mirror, door handles, ornamental rear quarter gills, wheel lip
molding, and rocker molding. The front fender wears a "350" badge
at the leading edge and "Camaro SS" badging near the door.
Hand-painted Hugger Orange pinstriping adorns the bulges of the
front fender and the rear quarter. This Camaro sits proudly atop a
set of 14" 5-slot grey Rally wheels with center caps and beauty
rings, all wearing Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 bias-ply tires - just
like it did when new. Around back there's a single-piece decklid
spoiler, RS taillights with an "SS" badge at the center, dual
exhaust outlets, and another chrome bumper with guards. Take a peek
underneath to find an incredibly clean undercarriage with white
painted floorpans, dual exhaust, and a newer-looking gas tank.
Lift the cowl hood to expose a clean and detailed stock engine bay
that's a testament to the level of care this Camaro has received
its whole life. At the center is a 350ci V-8 that has a correct
casting number (3956618), cast date (B279=Feb 27, 1969), and HB
suffix code ('69 Camaro 350 300hp Automatic Trans), but there is no
VIN stamp on the machine pad or the alternate location next to the
oil filter. The block is painted orange, and so are the heads,
valve covers, intake, and water pump. The hearty V-8 is topped off
with a 4-barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor (1973 date code) and
a correct cowl induction air cleaner assembly with "350 TurboFire
300 Horsepower" decal. Ahead of the block you'll notice that this
car is equipped with factory A/C (blows nice & cold) and power
steering. You can see the attention paid to all the little details
- even things like the correct tower-clamps on the hoses. This
Camaro sends power through a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission
(dated 7/3/69) to a 12-bolt GM rear axle (dated 4/14/69) with open
3.07:1 gears - very freeway friendly. Stopping power comes courtesy
of power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust flows from cast
manifolds through a chambered muffler and out the dual exits to
produce an aggressive throaty sound that's just perfect for this
car.
Prepare to be impressed when you swing open the drivers door! This
Z10 has been graced with a gorgeous Ivory and Black interior with
woodgrain accents. The white RS door panels are in excellent
condition and they feature bright trim pieces and black carpeted
bottoms. The star of the interior are the seats - white vinyl with
black & white houndstooth inserts - in flawless condition and
comfortable too. Separating the front buckets is a center console
that's home to a rear seat ashtray, storage box, seat belt holder,
and a horseshoe shifter for the automatic transmission. The console
is finished off with good-looking woodgrain trim and bright
accents. Ahead of the driver is a black 2-spoke steering wheel with
woodgrain trim, an "SS" badge, a working horn, and tilt function.
The wheel fronts a very nice crack-free black dash that appears to
have a newer vinyl padded top. Directly ahead of the wheel theres a
120mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and warning lights for all the
integral systems. The odometer reads 204 miles but the title claims
mileage discrepency. Beneath, there are light and wiper controls
(working) to the left and what appears to be the original Delco AM
radio to the right - both set in woodgrain bezels. The radio plays
through a dash speaker and speakers in the kick panels. To the
right of the fuel gauge are climate controls that crank out cold
A/C and hot heat with a working fan. Ahead of the passenger are an
ashtray, glovebox, grab handle, and yet more woodgrain accents. The
dome light, rear console light, and the glovebox light work as they
should. Overhead are a tight black vinyl headliner and shoulder
safety belts while underfoot is high-quality black hook & loop
carpet that's kept nice with black rubber floormats. Around back in
the trunk are a plaid vinyl mat, a Mini spare with factory jack,
and a packet that contains some old photos of the car, the original
owners manual, Z10 information, a decoding of the VIN and trim tag,
and some notes from previous owners.
Over the years we've seen our fair share of '69 Camaro's roll
through our showroom, but this is the first time we've had the
privilege of offering a Z10 car - and we're pretty excited about
it! This is the kind of car that will be a standout in just about
any collection, and it's sure to be a hit at literally any car show
you take it to! Most people have never seen one of these Z10's, let
alone had the chance to own one. Don't let this rare opportunity
pass you by, the chance may never come again! Give our friendly
staff a call today.
