1972 BMW 2002tii - Riviera Blue Roundie
Few cars earned their reputation the way the 2002tii did. It's the
model that established BMW as a serious performance brand in
America, and this Riviera Blue roundie is a well-sorted,
driver-grade example ready for the next chapter.
The heart of any tii is the Kugelfischer-fed 2.0-liter M10
inline-four - the mechanical fuel injection system that separated
this variant from the standard 2002 and bumped output to a
factory-rated 140 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque. That engine
was reportedly rebuilt during a pre-2000 refurbishment. Since then,
the trunk-mounted battery setup has remained, an intake snorkel
sits on the radiator support, and a twin-outlet Ansa exhaust gives
the M10 the voice it deserves.
Backing the engine is a four-speed manual rebuilt in the late
2010s. In 2020, the current owner resurfaced the flywheel,
installed a new clutch, and replaced the rear main seal along with
the shift rod and input/output shaft seals - the kind of preventive
sorting that makes a vintage car actually usable.
Originally delivered in Polaris Metallic, the car wears Riviera
Blue applied during the pre-2000 refurbishment. Front clip sheet
metal was replaced at some point. Honest flaws are disclosed:
various paint chips, a blemish on the left rear window, and cracks
in the dash - this is a driver, not a concours trailer queen.
A set of 13 Cosmic wheels wrapped in 205/60 Vredestein Sprint
Classic tires (mounted in 2020) gives the car its stance.
Underneath, you'll find power-assisted front discs, rear drums,
factory front and rear anti-roll bars, and Bilstein shocks at the
rear axle. The underside and wheel wells were cleaned with dry ice
under current ownership.
Step inside and the reclining front buckets and rear bench are
finished in blue Skai vinyl, retrimmed during prior ownership. A
wood shift knob and Kenwood cassette deck keep things
period-appropriate. The three-spoke wheel frames a 120-mph
speedometer, a 6,400-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel
and coolant, with additional instrumentation and an analog clock
relocated to the center console.
The five-digit odometer reads 6,302 miles - roughly 5,000 added
during last ownership - but not original mileage.
Previous owner purchased in 2020, this roundie tii comes with a
tool kit, service records, a BMW Birth Certificate, and a clean
Nevada title. Kugelfischer-injected roundies are only getting
rarer, and a sorted one priced to drive is a hard thing to
find.
The vehicle has always been garaged. We welcome pre-purchase
inspections as well as video chats with the car. Key Specs
