"By the time the 1980's rolled around, the American car market had
changed drastically. Gone were the days of high powered land
barges. Insurance companies, gas crunches, and safety regulations
sucked away the ecstasy of the American muscle car as it was. Rear
wheel drive midsize cars were beginning to be phased out for more
compact, efficient, and "European inspired" offerings."

For consignment, a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 hardtop showing
69,468 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to title a
exemption. This one retains its numbers matching drivetrain which,
along with most other mechanical components, has been thoroughly
gone through and restored as needed. A detailed list of parts and
work will accompany the car.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
In what was called the signature combination, Black paint covers
most of the body with the bottom quarter draped in Silver, but it's
the gold accenting, the 442 expressed on each side, and the gold
painted wheels that make this car stand out. Notably, there are no
wings, air dams, or cladding like the other G-body performers got
at the time, making this a more understated special edition of a
common platform. T-tops and dual chrome tips add a sporty nature
and the blacked out grille, a bit of menace. The 15-inch Oldsmobile
Super Stock II wheels carry 215/65R15 tires with a mid 2024 date
code. Overall, the paint and trim are very nice with imperfections
noted as chips on the nose and random ones throughout, small
scratches on the side, scratches in tail light lens, touched up
chips and scratches, scuff and chips on front and rear bumpers.
Interior
442 is expressed on the door panels which are a slightly fancy
version of the G-body standard, a woodgrain accented door pull over
gray crushed velour, plastic center panel and armrest with chrome
switches, and carpeted lower and both doors are in nice shape. The
velvety gray material also covers the bucket seats up front which
are in very good shape, as is the rear bench and its 3 sets of seat
belts. A grippy gray steering wheel fronts the woodgrain accented
dashboard and instrument cluster that includes circular gauges and
two columns of indicator lights. The familiar center stack box
contains the A/C panel and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio, meeting
the center console we see across the G-body line and this one is
dressed in wood for some extra flair and presents cleanly. Gray
carpet is below and behind the glass T-tops is a foam backed
headliner with some typical dimples and some sagging but otherwise
clean. A speaker box occupies some real estate in the trunk along
with the space saver spare and the black floor covering.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a serviced and ready numbers matching 307ci V8
rated at 180 horsepower and fueled through a 4-barrel carburetor.
It's mated to the serviced and numbers matching 200R4 4-speed
automatic transmission sending power to the standard 10 bolt rear
and 3.73 gears with Positraction. The car comes equipped with power
steering, power brakes, and air conditioning and has headers.
Undercarriage
Super clean underneath where dual exhaust comes back from headers
and runs through FlowMaster mufflers on their way to polished exits
behind each rear wheel. There is no catalytic converter included.
New brakes are on board and they're power disc in front and power
drum in back. Suspension includes coil springs front and rear with
a 4 link on the back.
Drive-AbilityWith an exhaust note that's better than new, we roll
this clean 442 onto the test loop to find an ultra comfortable
ride, adequate power, and strong braking. We note the A/C is not
working, the driver's power lock switch does not unlock the door
and the passengers lock switch is not working at all. Beyond those
things, all functions in this well sorted Olds operate as they
should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions
were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee
these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
G-bodies have mass appeal, especially the further we get from the
80's, and special edition versions like the turbo Regals, Monte
Carlo SS's and the Olds 442's are highly sought after, especially
in fine condition like this one. No stone was unturned to sort this
car and it's ready for cruise nights, All GM shows, and anywhere
else because you're guaranteed a reaction from onlookers.
