Description:
This 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS is one of approximately 2,900
E-series examples produced through July 1974. Said to have been
finished from the factory in green, chassis 08254 underwent a color
change to red prior to its acquisition by the current owner in 1981
and now shows 33k miles. The car is powered by a 2.4-liter V6
equipped with triple Weber carburetors that is mated to a
five-speed manual transaxle and rides on 14? Cromodora five-lug
alloy wheels coupled with Koni shocks and ventilated disc brakes at
all four corners. A removable roof panel covers the cabin, which
features fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in beige leather as well
as a MOMO steering wheel, a gated shifter, air conditioning, and a
Kenwood stereo, manufacturer's literature, work invoices,
handwritten records dating from 1981, a tool kit, a jack bag, a
removed Becker Europa II radio, and a Florida title.
The prototype 206 GT first appeared at the 1965 Paris Auto Salon
with bodywork designed by Aldo Brovarone and Leonardo Fioravanti at
Pininfarina and was followed by revised concepts at the 1966 and
1967 Turin Motor Shows. The 2.0L-powered 206 entered production in
early 1968 before being superseded by the 2.4L-powered 246, which
was offered in GT coupe and GTS targa-top variants beginning in
1969 and 1971, respectively.
Interior:
The cabin houses fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in beige leather
with color-matched upholstery over the door panels and rear
bulkhead. Color-coordinated carpets line the floors, while gray
"mouse-fur" trim covers the dash. Further appointments include a
Kenwood AM/FM cassette stereo, air conditioning, power windows, and
headrests mounted to the seatbacks.
Exterior:
The Scaglietti-built bodywork on this example is said to have been
delivered from the factory in green and was repainted red prior to
1981. The car features US-market lighting including recessed
rectangular front turn signals, side markers, and rear reflectors
inboard of the taillights. Additional exterior features include a
removable roof panel, a driver-side mirror, a power antenna, chrome
bumperettes, and ANSA exhaust finishers. The 146.5? Cromodora
five-lug alloy wheels wear Dino-branded center caps and are mounted
with 205/70 Hankook tires. A matching spare wheel is mounted in the
front trunk. The suspension incorporates unequal-length A-arms,
coilover Koni shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars at front and
rear. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted ventilated disc
brakes all around. The brakes were serviced in 2017, and the tires
were installed in 2024.
Drivetrain:
The mid-mounted 2.4-liter Tipo 135CS V6 features a 65 angle
between cylinder banks, dual overhead camshafts on each bank,
Magneti Marelli ignition, and a trio of two-barrel Weber
carburetors. The selling dealer tells us that an oil change and
inspection were performed by Tim Stanford Foreign Cars of Ft.
Lauderdale, Florida, in preparation for the sale. Power is sent to
the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle.
