1975 Pontiac Trans AM Super Duty for sale! Motorcar Classics is
proud to present another truly legendary muscle car: a documented
two-owner 1973 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455 showing just 56,160
actual miles. This numbers-matching example was originally ordered
on March 27, 1973, through VanderZee Buick-Pontiac, Inc., and has
remained with its original owner for its entire lifean
extraordinary level of provenance. One of only 180 Super Duty Trans
Ams equipped with the Hydramatic transmission, this car represents
an exceptionally rare and highly collectible piece that would be
nearly impossible to duplicate today. The original owner, a West
Michigan enthusiast, had initially considered purchasing a used
1965 Shelby Cobra, but with prices approaching $9,000 at the time,
he instead chose to order this Trans Am. Accompanying the car is
its original handwritten bill of sale, signed by dealer principal
Raymond VanDerZee, along with the original title dated January 11,
1977, marking the lien payoff. The Trans Am carried a base price of
$4,203.75 plus a $48 destination charge, but with a well-selected
list of factory optionsincluding the coveted $521 Super Duty 455
enginethe total delivered price reached $5,027.20. Pontiac
installed this top-tier engine in only 252 vehicles, and while the
original owner knew he was ordering something special, the car?s
long-term significance was impossible to predict. Delivery took
place in early August 1973.The car was ordered in striking
Buccaneer Red over a black vinyl interior and equipped with
numerous desirable options, all of which are fully documented and
verified by PHS records that match the original order sheet.
Equipment includes the Lamp Group, AM radio with 8-track stereo,
center console, roof moldings, Trans Am hood decal, tinted glass,
electronic rear defroster, Ram Air hood, power windows, Delco
battery, and GR70x15 Honeycomb wheels, in addition to the Super
Duty 455 (code X). Authentication has been further confirmed by
John Hansen of Michigan Automotive Inspection Services, who
verified that the engine, transmission, and differential are all
original to the car, including a hidden VIN stamping inspection via
borescopeunderscoring the car?s exceptional originality.Supporting
documentation is extensive and includes the original title, bill of
sale, owner?s manual, operating instructions, maintenance schedule
pamphlet, PHS documentation and window sticker, as well as the
original 1973 Super Duty 455 dealer service bulletin. Mechanically,
the car performs exactly as one would expect from a well-preserved,
low-mileage example. The original XD-code engine was rebuilt to
factory specifications in 2000 and delivers tremendous power, while
the PQ-code Hydramatic transmission shifts smoothly. The car runs
and drives beautifully, with a tight, rattle-free feel and an
unmistakable exhaust note that makes it a joy on the
road.Approximately ten years ago, the car underwent a high-quality
restoration, beginning with a bare-metal refinish of the original
body, which was then repainted in its correct Buccaneer Red with
show-quality results. New decals were applied, while the original
floors still retain their factory red oxide primer, highlighting
the car?s exceptional structural integrity. The underside remains
remarkably clean and well-preserved. The interior has been
refreshed with new seat covers, carpeting, and rear package tray,
while the remaining components are original and in outstanding
condition. The factory radio remains in place, and all gauges are
clear and fully functional. The original Honeycomb wheels have been
restored, including the matching spare, and are fitted with correct
GR70-15 tires. The end result is a stunning, highly authentic Trans
Am Super Duty 455 that stands as one of the finest examples
available. Your inspection is invited.
