This 1969 911 GT-S signifies part of an intriguing and lesser-known
aspect of Porsche's history, setting the stage for the brand's
endurance and rally racing triumphs in the 1970s. A 1994 letter
from Porsche, included in the car's documentation, verifies that
this chassis (119300004) was among a batch of 10 pre-series
vehicles constructed between April and June 1968, which were kept
by the factory's Research and Development department for testing.
As per a copy of the Porsche Kardex, chassis 004 was completed in
June 1968. Finished in striking Blutorange (Blood Orange) the car
came originally outfitted with a two-liter, fuel-injected Type
901/10 911 S engine. Additionally, it features a competition-style
gearbox (number 9284107) with a dogleg shift pattern.
This Porsche was sold to its inaugural private purchaser, Eduardo
Dibs Chappuis of Peru. Widely recognized as "Chachi," Dibs was a
significant personality in both the motorsport arena and public
life. In the same month that he purchased the 911 GT-S, Dibs
participated in the Caminos del Inca Rally with it, alongside
co-driver Werner Bross. The GT-S stayed in South America for
several decades until it was uncovered in the late 1990s by
renowned Porsche restorer Roy Sanders, who resided in Marietta,
South Carolina. By then, the car had been altered with bodywork
reminiscent of the 3.0 RSR model. Over the following years, Sanders
conducted thorough research into the car's history, engaging in
correspondence with prominent Porsche historians and former factory
staff.
In 2004, Tommy Trabue purchased 004 and embarked on a thorough
restoration with the help of Roy Sanders. Completed in 2022, this
restoration process was meticulously documented through detailed
correspondence, invoices, and photographs. The 911 GT-S was
restored to its original specifications, showcasing its Blood
Orange finish, and equipped with an appropriate 901/10 engine (no.
6392082). Additionally, it features a 100-liter aluminum fuel tank,
roll bar, aluminum deck lid with external hinges, and driving
lamps. Chassis 004 offers a unique chance to obtain a historically
important experimental Porsche. This is an ex-works 911 GT-S with
documented use by the factory.
