Rare Canadian made 1948 Mercury Business coupe. Only 365 produced in 1948.
This car has been stored indoors since 1970. It is complete and in original condition with no modifications.
Very little rust. Flathead V8 engine. Single bench seat style.
Current owner has owned the car since 1963 and can provide the history of the car from production in 1948 to today (2026).
Built exclusively in Canada from 1946 through mid-1948, the Mercury 114 model line combined Ford bodies with upscale Mercury trim and bridged the size and price gap between Ford and Mercury. This extremely rare 1948 Mercury 114X Sedan Coupe is named after its 114-inch wheelbase length, as a companion model to Mercury’s larger 118 model line. The “X” indicates that it is a top-of-the-line model, similar to the upscale trim and in passenger amenities of Ford’s Super Deluxe models.
Sports a stylized “Mercury” grille and mascot, chrome bumpers and “Mercury” scripted hub caps on 16” rims. Flathead V8 engine with 3-speed column shift manual transmission. Under the dash heater, clock.
The block of the 39A motor was replaced in 1952 but I do not know why, possibly a crack.
All components of the car are in good restorable condition which makes it a strong candidate for a total restoration. Interior upholstery and seat need redoing.
This car is one of only 365 Mercury 114x coupes built in Canada in 1948.
The car has not run since being placed in indoor storage in 1970. Motor does not turn due to sitting in barn. All original hubcaps.
