1968 Ford Shelby GT500E For Sale - Shelby-Registered GT500E Built
By Unique Performance LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1968
Ford Shelby GT500E In 1974, scrapyard owner and independent
filmmaker Henry Bright "H.B. Toby" Halicki wrote, directed, starred
in, and did the stunt driving for a film titled Gone in 60 Seconds.
The centrepiece of the movie was its climactic police chase.
Following the theft of a 1971 Ford Mustang by Halicki's character,
the 40-minute pursuit through Los Angeles left 93 cars destroyed.
As part of the movie's plot, that Mustang received the code-name
"Eleanor." Unfortunately, although a sequel was planned, Halicki
passed away in 1989 while working on said sequel, and as such it
was never made. However, in 1995, Halicki's widow Denise contacted
noted producer Jerry Bruckheimer about the possibility of creating
a remake of the film, and, following the success of the 2000 film
starring Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie, the legend of the
"Eleanor Mustang" rose once again. This Eleanor was built by Unique
Performance finished in movie-accurate Pepper Grey metallic with
Ebony Black stripes. It is powered by a Ford 408ci engine topped
with DC&O electronic fuel injection with eight individual
throttle bodies and velocity stacks producing around 475hp.
Additionally, the engine is fortified with an MSD ignition system,
a Griffin aluminum radiator, ceramic coated headers, and the famous
inboard side exhausts for even more power. For those who appreciate
a good soundtrack, rest assured - this car sounds fantastic! All of
this is delivered through a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission
with a performance clutch, and a Currie 9-inch rear differential
with 31 spline axles and a 3.89:1 final drive ratio for brisk
acceleration. Other options include leather high-back bucket seats
with embroidered Carroll Shelby autographs (Shelby's signature is
also on the glovebox door), functional air ducts to keep the rear
brakes cool, a trunk-mounted battery for improved weight
distribution, and a coil-over rear suspension. Accessories include
the iconic "Go Baby Go" shifter to activate a (non-functioning) NOS
system, an Air Products Hurricane air conditioning unit and a
multi-speaker sound system. In addition to being a great looking,
running, driving, and sounding car, this Eleanor comes with service
history, build sheet and much more. There are not many Eleanors out
there, and certainly not many in this fantastic condition. If you
are looking for a world-famous automobile that not only looks
fantastic, but drives fantastic as well, look no further than this
Eleanor! Additional Details: -
