When Lexus launched the SC430, they called it the jewel of the
lineup, and they meant it. This was the brand's first ever
convertible, developed as a proper grand tourer that could hold its
own against the Mercedes SL, the Jaguar XK8, and the Cadillac XLR.
Car and Driver praised it on launch as comfortable, fast, smooth,
and quiet, with all of the qualities expected from a car at this
level. This one is finished in Millennium Silver Metallic with the
power retractable aluminum hardtop, a clean and classic color
combination that suits the SC's smooth, flowing lines
perfectly.
Under the hood is the 4.3 liter V8 backed by a five speed
automatic, producing 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque.
The engine is smooth, refined, and effortless in the way only a
well engineered V8 can be. Power goes to the rear wheels, and the
SC carries its weight low and evenly, giving it the kind of
composed, confident handling that makes longer drives genuinely
enjoyable rather than something you endure.
Inside, the Saddle brown leather interior is rich and well
appointed, wrapped around a cabin trimmed in Birds Eye Maple wood.
Dual climate control, heated seats, power and memory seats, a power
tilt and telescoping steering column, and the Mark Levinson premium
sound system round out a car that leaves very little on the table.
All services are up to date and this is as clean an example as you
will find.
Early SC430 production, which this car falls into, was done
entirely by hand at Lexus with each car taking 71 hours to build.
That level of care shows in how these cars hold together over time.
The SC430 was initially a polarizing car in some circles, but time
has been very kind to it. As the automotive world has moved almost
entirely toward SUVs and crossovers, a low, elegant, V8 powered
grand tourer convertible with this level of fit and finish has only
grown more appealing. Values on clean examples are quietly on the
move.
You will not find a cleaner example of one of these.
