"Putting a Spirit in your driveway won't put a swagger in your walk
or send you searching for a new wardrobe with a lot of black
leather accessories. It will remind you why you started riding
V-twins in the first place: to cruise around and have fun. The
Spirit is a middle of the road bike that sits right in the middle
of the Indian lineup. A little dressier and more stylish than its
little brother the Scout, and a bit smaller in stature and mass
than its big brother the Chief, the Spirit is a riding machine."
Hotbike.com
For consignment, a 2003 Indian Spirit motorcycle with a title
verified 36 miles. That's right, friends, just 36 miles on this one
owner bike stored and serviced in a climate controlled
facility.
Exterior
If you really want your modern bike to give off vintage vibes,
start with Jet Black paint and if you're Indian, make the graphics
gold to include your iconic signature boldly on the tank and
pinstripes on the deep fenders and bulbous tank. And by all means,
don't forget the wide leather saddle with Indian head embossed and
the front marker light, a molded and proud Indian with headdress as
housing. Polish as many visible engine components as you can, don't
forget to add headdress, and make sure the exhaust pipes reflect
like a mirror and include a stamping of the Indian name just in
case fellow riders missed the tank.
Functionality
Even the grips have decorative bands of chrome but also big,
functional toggles where needed, all in polished housing. Between
the wide handlebars is the speedometer with embedded digital
readout in a teardrop chrome faceplate that displays colored lights
associated with different functions. Speaking of teardrop, the
headlight is shaped as such and is flanked by protruding amber
marking lights, similar to the units in back that bookend the
cylindrical oval tail light.
Drivetrain
Visible to all is the 88ci S&S Super Stock V-twin rated at 75
horsepower and fueled by the 42mm Mikuni 1-barrel carburetor and
the rear wheel is belt driven through a 5-speed manual. Suspension
consists of a telescopic fork up front and nitrogen charge and
preload adjustable coil spring shocks in back. Disc brakes are
front and rear on 16-inch chrome wire wheels.
We refer back to Hotbikes.com for the conclusion: "The Spirit is
not a hot rod, it's not a technological marvel, and it's not
flashy. But it is a good, solid bike that is easy to ride and puts
you in the mood to enjoy a leisurely cruise around the city or a
long day on a two lane highway. Hey, that sounds like fun. Gotta
go...' " Here's one that's 23 years old but is showroom fresh, just
like the one Hotbikes tested as new!
