1970 Ford Mustang Fastback – 410ci Cleveland Stroker, 570HP, Pro-Touring Build
This 1970 Ford Mustang Fastback is a meticulously built, high-performance street machine combining classic muscle car styling with modern engineering and reliability. Originally acquired in early 2024 from a Pennsylvania classic car dealer, the vehicle is believed to have undergone a restoration in the early 2000s. Since then, nearly every mechanical component has been professionally upgraded or replaced, resulting in a no-expense-spared build.
The body and paint are in excellent condition, showing high-quality workmanship throughout. The underside is fully finished and detailed, consistent with a rotisserie restoration, and features protective undercoating in key areas. The car is rust-free with no visible filler, making it a strong structural foundation for this performance-focused build.
Engine power comes from a professionally built 410ci Cleveland stroker V8 by RCS Racing Engines, designed specifically for street performance on 93 octane fuel. Built from a 1970 2-bolt block, the engine features forged internals, ARP hardware throughout, and a custom solid roller camshaft. Aluminum cylinder heads (Trick Flow), an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and a Holley Sniper EFI system deliver precise fuel and ignition control. The setup produces an impressive 570 horsepower and 540 lb-ft of torque, with a broad, flat torque curve ideal for street driving. A ceramic-coated header system feeds into a 3-inch MagnaFlow stainless exhaust with X-pipe for an aggressive yet refined sound.
Cooling and accessory systems are equally well thought out, including a Champion aluminum radiator, high-output SPAL electric fans, and a CVF Racing serpentine system with 140-amp alternator, modern A/C compressor, and power steering. Borgeson power steering and Vintage Air ensure comfort and drivability in all conditions.
The drivetrain is built to handle the power, featuring an American Powertrain Tremec TKX 5-speed manual transmission with a low first gear set, paired to a McLeod RST twin-disc clutch and hydraulic actuation. Power is sent through a steel driveshaft to a Quick Performance 9-inch rear end with 3.70 gears, Eaton TruTrac differential, and 31-spline axles. This combination offers strong acceleration while maintaining comfortable highway cruising at approximately 2,300 RPM in 5th gear.
Handling and braking have been significantly upgraded with a full Street or Track suspension system. The front features tubular control arms with improved geometry (Shelby-style drop), 600 lb springs, and a reinforced steering system. The rear uses performance leaf springs with Del-A-Lum bushings and Bilstein shocks at all four corners. Four-wheel Wilwood disc brakes (13-inch front, 12-inch rear) provide confident stopping power, supported by a manual master cylinder and adjustable proportioning valve.
Wheels and tires the car rides on 17-inch Magnum 500-style aluminum wheels wrapped in Nitto 555 G2 performance tires (245 front, 275 rear), giving it a classic look with modern grip.
This Mustang represents a rare opportunity to own a professionally built pro-touring classic with exceptional power and handling. It is equally capable as a weekend cruiser, show car, or high-performance street machine.
Clean, well-executed builds of this caliber are increasingly difficult to find.
