"The Thoroughbred Stallion began making its mark on the powersports
industry in 2006 and is now returning to reclaim its territory. The
idea for the Stallion came from customer demand for an automatic
vehicle, coming together with a trike knowledge base from sister
company, Motor Trike. The Stallion is a truly original trike that
was designed and built in the USA. The Stallion was created for
riders desiring more comfort and ease of operation while still
enjoying the trike riding experience. It has an exciting power to
weight ratio with excellent gas mileage and features and benefits
not offered on any other motorcycle." Motortrike.com
For consignment, a 2009 Thoroughbred Stallion with a title verified
19,385 actual miles. Talk about different, here we have what
presents as a three wheeled motorcycle with trailer with driving
componentry that is far more car-like! Less than 1,000 Thoroughbred
Stallions were produced.
Exterior
If the unique, somewhat futuristic shape doesn't get your
attention, surely the highly detailed Bald Eagle on a white
background will. A pointed nose is followed by an ever widening
body complete with intake ducts that double as side steps which
help you navigate over the low threshold and into one of two seats.
What starts with a single wheel motorcycle front ends in decidedly
car like configuration utilizing Acura TL tail lights that are
flush and attractive, flanking a decklid that includes the fuel
filler and a chrome roll bar. The wheels are uniquely Thoroughbred
with a 16-inch in front and 18's in back with 60 series tires that
have an early 2021 date code. The trailer behind has a white body
surrounded by diamond steel panels, fenders, and lid. We could find
no imperfections on this unique machine.
Interior
A pair of bucket seats are provided, here with genuine ostrich
skin, with the passenger sitting behind the driver and leaning on a
cloth headrest with an eagle patch added. Up front, you may
recognize the steering wheel and compressed dash from a Ford Ranger
with standard instrument cluster ahead and automatic shifter to the
right, A/C panel, (yes! A/C!), radio, and lights to the left, all
in a texture black plastic trim plate. Gas pedal is on the right
and the brake is on the left as you straddle the middle and learn
left foot braking with both pedals being adjustable. There's a rear
trunk that provides seven cubic feet of storage and the sectioned
trailer space provides another 14 cubic feet.
Drivetrain
Under the nose, you'll find a 2.3 liter Duratec DOHC inline 4
cylinder that puts out 143 horsepower on a vehicle that weighs
about 1,700 pounds. It's fuel injected and put into motion via a
5-speed automatic transmission that routes power to a narrowed rear
with a Ford 8.8" axle. The auto bike has power steering and power
brakes and operates through a 12 volt system.
Undercarriage
Some typical oxidation is noted but otherwise the clean underside
holds a single exhaust with the original muffler, power disc brakes
front and rear, and suspension is composed of progressive shocks up
front and airbags in back.
Drive-Ability
It's a slightly odd sensation operating a motorcycle with
automotive controls, but it doesn't take long to get used to.
There's certainly a good power to weight ratio here and a feeling
of security of three wheels and full seat. Operationally,
everything works as it should and we land this eagle back at the
mall to take its place under the lights. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
