Gateway Classic Cars Tampa Showroom is honored to digitally present
this rare 1981 Pontiac Trans Am Daytona Pace Car Edition. When you
think of collectible Trans Ams you think of the original '69 T/A,
early bull nose 70s models, the SDs, and of course the Y82
Bandit's. All of which, are seeing prices going through the roof or
T-Tops in this case. However, the 80-81 T/A pace cars are a steal
and certainly a collectible Pontiac without question. Only 2000 of
the 1981 Y85 Daytona cars were made and each featured Recaro seats.
How many remain on the road today? It can't be many. By 1981, the
400ci 6.6litre engine was gone and replaced with the disappointing
301ci. However, with the turbocharged option, the small mill
produced a respectable 210hp and 345lbs of torque. This Daytona
appears to be a true low mile survivor. The engine fires right up
and runs smooth. The always heavy and drooping F-body doors are
high and tight and the paint still maintains a beautiful luster.
The consignor has had the alternator, a/c compressor, and turbo
replaced to make sure the T/A is ready to go. Poncho lovers and T/A
collectors, this Trans Am is going to get massive attention so you
better move fast. It's currently sitting in our main showroom, but
you can bet it won't be here long. We are about to go green!
