Very solid and straight car with good bodywork. Beautiful original
interior. 302 2V V8 with automatic transmission, power steering and
brakes. Factory A/C. Newer power convertible top. Just a nice old
Mustang ready to cruise this summer.?For top-down fun in the
summer, it's hard to beat a vintage Mustang. Everyone loves
Mustangs, and with user-friendly V8 power, lots of convenience
features, and a bright red paint job, this 1973 Ford Mustang
convertible is sure to win a lot of friends. It has never been
fully restored, but it does wear a single repaint in its original
Bright Red, an appropriate shade for a car designed to attract
attention. We're really pleased with how straight this car is,
suggesting that it has lived an easy life, and the doors close with
a solid sound that's uncommon in Mustang convertibles. Details like
the ducted hood, urethane front bumper, and blacked-out tail panel
all give the Mustang a sporty attitude, and we're seeing that the
later cars like this '73 are seeing some nice gains in the market.
The finish still has a deep gloss, and most of the chrome
brightwork, which is probably original, is in great condition with
an equally nice shine. Someone clearly loved this pony and it
shows.?The white vinyl interior appears to be largely original, and
that speaks volumes about the care this car has received over the
years. The carpets may have been replaced at some point, since
they're just too nice to be more than 50 years old, but details
like the seats, door panels, and even the dash pad appear to be the
genuine article. Gauges cover only the basics of speed and fuel
level, but the round pods ahead of the driver add to the Mustang's
sporty demeanor. You also get a working factory AM/FM radio, a
clock nestled down on the console ahead of the shifter, and factory
A/C, which isn't working but could probably be repaired without a
massive investment. Mustang-logo front floor mats protect those
newer carpets, and all the seats are remarkably free of splits,
tears, or discoloration. Overhead, there's a white power
convertible top that fits well and features a glass rear window,
and it stows under a matching white boot to give the car a clean
look. The trunk is clean and features a correct mat and full-sized
spare with jack assembly.?The engine is a 302 cubic inch V8, which
later became known as the legendary 5.0. With a 2-barrel
carburetor, it's not quite a tire-shredder, but it makes great
torque and awesome V8 sounds thanks to a newer dual exhaust system.
Seeing a Mustang that's almost completely stock is always good news
when you're shopping, and this one is stock from the air cleaner to
the exhaust manifolds. Details like the hoses, hose clamps, and
decals all lend an air of authenticity, and it appears to have
quite a few new parts like the radiator up front and the brake
master cylinder. A recent tune-up means it runs great, starts
easily, and drives well. The 3-speed automatic transmission is a
nice partner with the torquey 302, giving you a bit of performance
when you need it but mostly being relaxed and easy to live with.
That low-key demeanor is assisted by 2.79 gears in the rear end,
which makes this an effortless highway cruiser. You'll note that
the floors are solid, the frame rails are intact, and the torque
boxes aren't rotten or twisted, more evidence of an easy life. Lots
of new brake components, recent shocks, and that great-sounding
exhaust system make this Mustang ready to go. 15-inch Magnum 500
wheels are a great choice on any Mustang, and these carry fat
245/60/15 BfGoodrich T/A radials all around.?Documentation includes
a set of shop and assembly manuals.?The great thing about the early
'70s Mustangs is that they offer a lot of bang for the buck. In
this car's case, you get a clean, bright red, V8 Mustang drop-top
for the price of an early Mustang coupe--pretty hard to beat that.
