The 1969 El Camino SS 396ci Turbo 400 Automatic.
The El Camino SS 396 sits at the crossroads of muscle car and work
truck, that command serious attention from collectors. The El
Camino 396 is a full-bore muscle performance. El Camino by 1969 had
inherit the same big block engines and SS identity as its brother
the Chevelle SS. By 1969 Chevrolet was comfortable selling serious
power. Super Sport package and the now-legendary 396 cubic inch big
block to become central to the El Camino's identity.
This is a laser straight and rust free El Camino. This is an older
frame off restoration. That being said as of 2021 a complete
refreshing was done. The short list of work done; New tires, rear
trailing arms, control arms, bushings, New exhaust system, and New
shocks. New upgrade seat belts. The gauge package (Super Sport)
restored, steering wheel, glove box, wiper arms and instrument
carrier (dash). Add to the list a New battery, upgrade on the
radiator to a cooper 3-core. Also done was a New heater core, New
vacuum lines, New speedo cable and casing.
The 396 was rebuilt with an Xtreme Energy Comp Cam # 11-242-3.
Brings the estimated horsepower to 375. These have slightly rough
idle and performance cam rumble. The build in 2021 had 75,000
original miles as of 2026 78,387 miles. Build has 3,387 miles. The
Turbo 400 transmission and diff have been serviced. The 12-bolt
rear has 3.07 gears perfect for HWY cruising.
The butternut yellow paint with black stripes is striking. The
vinyl top looks to be new. The black interior is in excellent
condition. The bed rubber non slip mat is new.
This is a factory Chevrolet El Camino SS equipped with a "396" with
the specific SS 396 badging and configuration that collectors chase
today.
