Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1979 International
Harvester Scout II. Finished in Rallye Gold with a matching top and
"shadow" graphics, this Scout remains in nearly all original paint
and has developed an incredible patina. Although this truck has a
great vintage look, the drivetrain is anything but - it has fewer
than 500 miles on a full interior and mechanical restoration with a
new engine and transmission.
Straight and solid with no known rust issues, aside from minor
surface rust here and there. Dry Texas truck with zero rot or rust
bubbles. Excellent door bottoms, quarters, fender doglegs and
rockers. There is a small dent in the right rear end cap but the
body is otherwise damage free. 15-inch Method alloy wheels are
wearing 33x10.50 BF Goodrich all-terrain tires with matching spare.
A two-inch lift gives this truck a great stance without sacrificing
drivability or making it too high to climb in and out of. Custom
front and rear bumpers with integrated LED lights and swing-away
tire carrier. This is, without a doubt, one of the best looking
Scouts we've had come through our shop.
Interior has been restored with new seats, door panels, carpet and
steering wheel. Custom dash with full instrumentation. Custom
interior courtesy lighting along either side of the headliner in
lieu of a dome light. High fidelity sound system with bluetooth
streaming and sub. B&M floor shifter. Glass and rubbers are
excellent, as are both original VIN plates on each door post.
Locking center console with arm rest and cupholders. Thanks to full
carpet this Scout is more quiet than most.
Under the hood is a JEGS "Blueprint" crate 350 mated to a THM400
automatic transmission, also sourced new from JEGS. This SBC
breathes great thanks to an Edelbrock AVS2 four-barrel carburetor
(with electric choke) plus Hedman headers leading to a custom dual
exhaust. Aluminum radiator, heavy-duty alternator, brand new
Painless wiring harness, custom 26-gallon gas tank - literally
every driveline system is new or refreshed. The suspension has also
been refurbished, with new leaf springs and bushings and new
Bilstein shocks. The front axle was cut and turned to correct the
steering geometry - thanks to high-quality components and the
caster correction, it drives better than most lifted scouts.
Under enthusiast ownership for the last seven years, the present
owner drove this truck to Georgia from Texas in 2019 with his
father. He continued to drive it for a year with the original 345
before embarking on a multi-year driveline upgrade - the result is
an authentic "patina build" - a Scout that preserves a
once-in-a-lifetime original finish, but with a fully restored
interior and drivetrain. It runs and drives great - the 350 is
appreciably smoother and more powerful than an IH 304 or 345, and
more serviceable too. Short of an LS-swap at $100k+ this is one of
the best running and driving Scouts (not to mention great looking)
we've experienced.
